The DCD-3000NE belongs to the Reference Series from Denon and plays Super Audio CD and CD, plus DVD and CD data discs carrying high-resolution files. It was announced in 2024, Denon's current price is USD 3,299, and finishes are black or silver with an aluminium centre front panel. The chassis measures 434 x 138 x 405 mm (width, height, depth) with a net weight of 16.8 kg.
Key specs that matter
Four ESS ES9018K2M converters handle the digital-to-analogue stage, each rated for PCM at 384 kHz and 32 bit and DSD at 11.2 MHz, driven by the seventh-generation Ultra AL32 Processing with interpolation, up-sampling and bit extension. On both SACD and CD the S/N figure is 122 dB, and harmonic distortion measures 0.0005% on SACD versus 0.0015% on CD. Frequency response runs from 2 Hz to 20 kHz at -0.5 dB on CD and to 50 kHz at -3 dB on SACD. Dynamic range reaches 115 dB for SACD and 101 dB for CD. The line output delivers 2.2 V RMS into 10 kohm, and consumption is 35 W running or under 0.3 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Denon fits its own SACD mechanism and a patented Suppress Vibration Hybrid (S.V.H.) drive, and its low-mounted design keeps disc rotation from shaking the pickup while shortened signal paths reduce noise from pickup control and decoding. The master clock sits beside the DACs, and three oscillators cover multiples of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz plus DSD at 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz. The output stage is a fully discrete differential amplifier, and the audio circuitry runs from an EI transformer. Data discs on DVD may carry WAV, FLAC and AIFF up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, ALAC up to 96 kHz, and DSD in DIFF and DSF form up to 5.6 MHz, while CD-R/RW files stop at 48 kHz. SACD Text is displayed, last function memory and auto standby are included, and firmware can be updated. A Pure Direct mode is provided, and there are no digital inputs, network functions or headphone output. Shinichi Yamauchi, the Denon Sound Master, tuned the unit.
Pairing
A single pair of fixed RCA outputs with machined brass terminals connects to any line input. Optical and coaxial digital outputs are fitted as well, but they carry only CD playback, because the SACD DSD layer is copy-protected. The aluminium-topped remote also controls the PMA-3000NE amplifier, and a stereo RCA cable and two AAA batteries come in the box.
Alternatives
The Denon DCD-1700NE is a lower-priced SACD player with a single PCM1795 converter, listed at USD 1,699.
