An ESS ES9018K2M converter is fed by Denon's Advanced AL32 Processing Plus digital filter, a stage that fills in lost sample values by interpolation before conversion, and the DAC runs at up to 192 kHz with 32-bit precision. Engineering and use context

The drawer handles pressed CDs and burned CD-R or CD-RW discs, including discs holding WMA, MP3 and AAC files, and supports program, repeat and random play. The front USB-A port adds WAV, FLAC and AIFF up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, ALAC up to 96 kHz, and DSD files of the DIFF or DSF type at 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz. Denon states the unit uses customised components. Inside, Denon fits power transformers chosen for this model, mounted near the bottom directly above the insulators, and gives the analogue and digital boards separate rectifier circuits. The layout increases the distance between the audio and digital boards to reduce vibration and interference, and circuit patterns keep signal paths short. Pure Direct mode switches off the display and the digital outputs. The display has a dimmer and can be turned off, auto power off is included, and there is no headphone output.

Pairing

One pair of gold-plated RCA sockets carries the two-channel analogue signal to the line stage of an amplifier or receiver. Optical and coaxial digital outputs connect to the digital input of an amplifier or AV receiver. The RC-1246 remote is supplied, and remote control bus in and out sockets are provided.
