The V12+ sits in the centre of the three-model V+ line from M&K Sound, a thoroughly revised version of the earlier V series, placed between the V10+ and the V15+. It holds THX Certified Select status for rooms up to about 56 m3. At launch it sold in Germany for EUR 2,150, and it is offered in satin black or white.

Key specs that matter

One 12-inch long-throw driver works in a sealed cube of 395 x 395 x 395 mm with a weight of 21.2 kg. The switch-mode amplifier with an analogue input stage delivers 400 W RMS at 0.5 percent THD into 4 ohm and 800 W peak. Average in-room response is 20 to 200 Hz within 3 dB, with the -6 dB point at 18 Hz measured nearfield. The low-pass filter runs from 43 to 300 Hz and phase from 0 to 360 degrees. Connections are two RCA inputs and two RCA outputs for left and right. Power draw is 0.8 W in standby, 40 W on average and 200 W at most.

Engineering and use context

The driver is reinforced and designed for extended excursion, and the sealed box is what allows a 12-inch unit to fit in a cabinet under 40 cm per side. A Headroom Limiter Maximizer provides dynamic control of driver excursion, stepping in only when the driver approaches its physical limit. In measurements the output rose almost linearly up to about 115 dB at 1 m before the limiter acted, while content below 30 Hz was held at around 105 dB to keep the driver and amplifier within their limits. The rear panel carries little more than a level control. Volume, crossover frequency, delay, phase and a four-band parametric EQ with frequency, gain and Q per band are reached through the Bluetooth-linked M&K app on an Android or iOS device, with a normal mode limited to basic functions and an installer mode that opens every setting. An auto power function turns the unit on with an incoming signal and back off after it ends. Delivery includes gloves, rubber feet and mains cords.

Pairing

The line-level RCA inputs take a feed from the LFE jack of a surround amplifier or processor, or a stereo pair from a preamplifier, and the RCA outputs let the signal continue to another device in the chain. The wide app-controlled crossover range covers small satellite speakers that need the subwoofer to take over fairly high, as well as larger main speakers crossed low.

The M&K Sound V15+ is the larger model in the V+ series, with a single 15-inch driver, 500 W RMS and THX Ultra certification for rooms up to about 85 m3.
