The V10+ is the compact subwoofer of M&K Sound's V+ Series, from the company that began as Miller and Kreisel in California which M&K credits with introducing the home subwoofer concept. The V+ Series updated the earlier V Series, and the V10+ replaced the V10 with more power and lower bass extension.
Key specs that matter
A single 10 in driver with a treated paper cone sits in a sealed enclosure, driven by a Class D amplifier rated at 300 W RMS (0.5% THD into 4 ohms) and 600 W peak. In-room response is 24 Hz to 200 Hz (+/-3 dB), rolling off to -6 dB at 20 Hz in near-field measurement. The low-pass filter is continuously variable from 60 Hz to 200 Hz, fourth order, and phase is continuously variable from 0 to 180 degrees. Inputs and outputs are stereo RCA line level. The cabinet is a 345 mm cube and weighs 15.4 kg.
Engineering and use context
Compared with the V10, M&K raised amplifier power from the V10's 200 W RMS and extended output from 25 Hz to 20 Hz at -6 dB. The new cone treatment makes the diaphragm stiffer to reduce distortion. The sealed alignment gives a gentle 12 dB per octave roll-off and short decay, which suits music and film, and it avoids port noise at high output. The Class D amplifier is fed by M&K's proprietary analogue front-end input stage. A Headroom Limiter Maximizer controls driver excursion dynamically, so the sub can be driven hard without bottoming. Auto power detection switches the unit on when a signal arrives, and standby consumption is 0.5 W, with 30 W average and 150 W maximum in use. M&K describes the sealed enclosure as anti-resonant and positions the V10+ for offices as well as living rooms. The curved, tapered cabinet keeps cubic dimensions, carries an embossed logo, and the magnetic front grille removes without tools. Finishes are satin black and satin white. Rubber feet, gloves and power cords for US and EU sockets are supplied. The phase control helps align the sub with the main speakers when it cannot be placed next to them, and the wide low-pass range matches it to small satellites as well as to large towers.
Pairing
The stereo line inputs and outputs connect to a stereo preamplifier or an AV receiver's LFE output, while the line outputs loop the signal to a second sub. The compact cube suits living rooms, while larger rooms can use two units.
Alternatives
M&K Sound's V12+ is the larger THX Certified Select model with a 12 in driver, 400 W RMS and app control.
