The PB-3000 is the ported-box model of the SVS 3000 Series, a 13-inch subwoofer that the company says draws on technology first used in its 16-Ultra and 4000 Series ranges. It was the first SVS cabinet with two ports, and it came only in Premium Black Ash. The model is no longer in stock at SVS, whose last listing showed USD 1,499.99 against a regular USD 1,699.99, and buyers are pointed to the newer 3000 Series models instead.
Key specs that matter
The 13-inch woofer faces forward and takes its drive from a Sledge STA-800D2 amplifier rated at 800 watts RMS continuous with more than 2,500 watts of peak dynamic power. In standard mode the response runs from 16 to 260 Hz within 3 dB, and with the ports plugged it runs from 18 to 260 Hz. Including the steel mesh grille, the cabinet is 55.7 cm tall, 46.5 cm wide and 66 cm deep, or 59.6 cm deep without it, and it weighs 37.3 kg out of the box.
Engineering and use context
The two 3.5-inch ports were sized to move large volumes of air without turbulence. Two foam plugs are supplied, and the DSP holds a separate response curve for each tuning, so the owner picks between maximum output in standard mode and a sealed alignment with a gentler roll-off. The driver was new for this series, with a vented cone of 1050 aluminium, a composite fibre dust cap, an SBR surround and the first SVS flat edge-wound split-wind voice coil on a 2-inch fibreglass former. Its motor pairs two toroidal ferrite magnets of nearly 11 kg with an oversized U-yoke of low-carbon 1008 steel and an aluminium shorting sleeve, all mounted in a cast aluminium basket. On the amplifier side, Class D switching with discrete 25 A MOSFETs is controlled by a 50 MHz DSP from Analog Devices with 56-bit filtering. The Bluetooth app for iOS and Android sets crossover, polarity, room gain, port mode and three parametric EQ bands, and it saves three custom presets, while a rear Intelligent Control Interface with backlit buttons shows each change made in the app in real time.
Pairing
Stereo RCA inputs and pass-through outputs, with an input impedance of 16 kilohm, connect it to an AV receiver LFE jack or to the preamp outputs of a stereo system. A 3-12 V trigger and auto-on sensing let it follow the power state of the main electronics, and standby consumption stays at 0.5 W. The large ported cabinet is aimed at bigger home theaters and music systems where the floor space for a deep enclosure is available.
