The 3000 Micro is the smallest subwoofer of the SVS 3000 Series, built around a compact sealed cabinet. It was the first SVS design to use two fully active drivers mounted on opposite faces of the box, and it has since been superseded by the 3000 Micro R|Evolution, so the original now appears as sold out. Its final listing showed USD 699.99 against a regular USD 899.99, in Piano Gloss Black or Piano Gloss White.

Key specs that matter

Two 8-inch drivers, wired in parallel, fire in opposite directions from the left and right panels. They are driven by a Sledge STA-800D2 amplifier rated at 800 watts RMS continuous and above 2,500 watts peak. SVS rates the response at 23 to 240 Hz within 3 dB, measured on a 2 m ground plane. With its grilles fitted, the enclosure is 27.8 cm high, 29.7 cm wide and 27.1 cm deep and weighs 10.2 kg.

Engineering and use context

Because the two cones move outward and inward together, the mechanical forces they transfer to the cabinet largely cancel, which stops a light enclosure from shifting across the floor at high levels. Each driver uses an aluminium cone and bobbin, a progressive inverted NBR surround, an overhung motor with an oversized Y30 ferrite magnet, a four-layer copper voice coil and a 6061 aluminium shorting ring, and allows 24 mm of linear and 37 mm of mechanical excursion. The Class D amplifier combines discrete 25 A, 600 V MOSFETs with a 50 MHz Analog Devices DSP running 56-bit double precision filters and multi-band limiters, and its response curve is shaped to exploit the boost that room boundaries give a sealed box. The owner can adjust the low pass filter, polarity, phase, room gain compensation and three bands of parametric EQ from the rear Intelligent Control Interface or from the SVS Bluetooth app for iOS, Android and Amazon devices, which also stores three presets. The MDF cabinet is structurally reinforced and ships with two steel mesh grilles and isolating feet.

Pairing

Line-level stereo RCA inputs and outputs take the subwoofer output of a surround processor or the stereo pre-out of an integrated amplifier, with 16 kilohm input impedance. Auto On and a 3-12 V trigger allow it to wake with the rest of the system, standby draw is 0.5 W, and the small footprint lets it sit beside a sofa or under a desk next to compact stand-mount speakers.

The SVS 3000 Micro R|Evolution is the successor model, retaining the micro-sized sealed cabinet but with opposing 9-inch drivers.
