The REL No.35 is a 12 inch active subwoofer in the Reference series of the British company, introduced in September 2026 together with the larger No.36 as the replacement for the No.31. It keeps the exterior size of its predecessor so that it can be used alongside it, and the price at launch was USD 10,000 or GBP 9,000, with preorders opening on 22 September 2026.
Key specs that matter
At its heart sits a 305 mm Pure Carbon Fibre cone, capped by an inverted carbon fibre dome, on a die-cast aluminium chassis. Amplification is rated at 900 W RMS, and in-room extension is given as minus 6 dB at 17 Hz. The closed cabinet fires forward and measures 638 mm wide, 435 mm high and 724 mm deep, with 59 kg of net weight, while the shipping carton of 933 x 681 x 870 mm reaches 78.25 kg. High level input and output use Neutrik SpeakOn connectors, low level stereo signals arrive on RCA or XLR, and the LFE channel also has RCA and XLR sockets, with LFE and line outputs for chaining further units. Gain range is 80 dB, and the new amplifier keeps the rated output of the No.31 unchanged.
Engineering and use context
Compared with the No.31, the new driver has a redesigned suspension and gains 12 mm of travel in each direction, and its cone uses a finer 12K weave with 12,000 filaments per bundle instead of 6K. The amplifier follows a topology REL calls Class AB/D, pairing a high-current supply of the type found in Class A/B designs, built around a 7.7 kg toroidal transformer, with a Class D output stage, aiming to combine the current delivery of the first with the speed and efficiency of the second. A supplied Reference remote adjusts gain, crossover point, LFE level, phase and a dual parametric EQ. The cabinet has curved sides inspired by classic wooden runabouts and wears 12 hand-rubbed coats of piano black lacquer, with carbon fibre accents, a sculpted string grille that follows its shape, triple-plated stainless steel handles and knurled levelling cylinders.
Pairing
The high level SpeakOn link lets the No.35 take its signal from the amplifier terminals that feed the main stereo pair, and the LFE input serves a surround processor in a cinema. A Line Array can be built from several units, including mixed with a No.31, and an optional AirShip Direct transmitter removes the cable run from the system.
Alternatives
The REL No.36 is the 15 inch Reference sibling with a 1,000 W amplifier and extension to 15 Hz for larger rooms.
