The D8is is an architectural subwoofer from Perlisten Audio that can stand on the floor, hang on a wall or be built flush into one. Perlisten gave it a world premiere at the AXPONA show in Chicago in April 2025 and describes it as a universal design for all three uses. Unlike the company's cabinet subwoofers, it has no built-in amplifier - a separate DSP-controlled power unit is supplied with it. The suggested US price is USD 21,995 per unit in matte black.
Key specs that matter
Eight 215 mm (8.5 inch) drivers with carbon fiber diaphragms share the load, each with plus or minus 18.0 mm of linear excursion, and Perlisten says their combined cone area moves as much air as a single 24 inch driver. The external DSP3000A amplifier delivers 3000 W RMS. With the THX EQ selected, response is 20 to 290 Hz at -6 dB and 16 to 330 Hz at -10 dB, the Boost EQ gives 16 Hz and 14 Hz as the lower limits, and the Cut EQ gives 25 Hz and 19 Hz. Reference sensitivity is 97.0 dB for 150 mV at 1.0 m. The enclosure measures 1137.6 x 508.0 x 238.6 mm without brackets and weighs 103.8 kg net, while the amplifier chassis is 89.0 x 429.2 x 322.4 mm and weighs 6.1 kg.
Engineering and use context
The drivers are arranged in a push-pull array with mechanical force cancellation - the two sides of the array play acoustically in phase but move mechanically out of phase, so the reaction force of each unit is offset by its opposite partner. Perlisten links this to lower distortion and greater linearity. The housing is made of aluminium with a black anodized matte surface. The shallow enclosure can go into a wall cavity, mounting brackets come in the box and a base for freestanding use is optional, as are the grilles. Processing inside the DSP3000A pairs a Texas Instruments chip handling 48-bit data paths with a 32-bit ARM Cortex M4 that calculates in double precision. Rack ears are included for fitting the amplifier into a standard 19 inch equipment rack.
Pairing
Signal reaches the amplifier through a single XLR or RCA socket, and it provides unbuffered XLR and RCA outputs along with an AES digital output. A 2.8 inch colour touchscreen on the amplifier and an app for iOS and Android give access to a 10-band parametric EQ with three presets, a low-pass filter adjustable up to 160 Hz with slopes from 6 to 24 dB per octave or bypassed for a processor with its own bass management, variable phase from 0 to 270 degrees and a polarity switch. Auto turn-on and 12 V trigger operation can be configured on the XLR or RCA input.
Alternatives
The Perlisten D3is is the smaller architectural model, with three 215 mm drivers, a 1500 W RMS external amplifier and a 146.1 mm deep enclosure weighing 39.7 kg.
