The Airmotiv XS10 is a powered subwoofer from Emotiva's Airmotiv XS family, which was announced alongside the Airmotiv T3+ tower and C3+ centre speaker with deliveries expected by the end of August 2022. It was announced at USD 599 and sits between the XS8 and XS12 in a line of four sizes running from 8 to 15 inches.
Key specs that matter
A 10-inch long-throw woofer with a 2-inch copper voice coil fires forward from the front baffle and is driven by a 350 W RMS Class A/B amplifier. Emotiva rates the response at 26 Hz to 200 Hz within ±3 dB. The input panel has one balanced XLR socket and two RCA inputs, labelled Sum and LFE, whose signals are combined internally, and there are no outputs. Controls cover crossover frequency up to 150 Hz, phase, volume, an LF Boost adjustable from about -3 dB to +9 dB at 30 Hz, and a power mode switch with On and Auto settings. The mains selector chooses 115 V at 60 Hz or 230 V at 50 Hz. The cabinet measures about 438 x 362 x 445 mm (HxWxD), and the shipping weight is about 29.9 kg.
Engineering and use context
This woofer has a cast aluminium frame and a non-pressed paper cone reinforced by aramid fibres, with an SBR rubber surround. Behind it, a large ferrite magnet stacked in two layers sits around a vented pole piece, which pushes air through the gap to cool the voice coil during long high-level passages. Emotiva chose a linear Class A/B amplifier with an oversized toroidal transformer rather than a switching design, and a multi-stage low-distortion limiter protects the driver and amplifier at the top of the output range. The enclosure is heavily braced HDF with a tuned slot port on the rear panel. Auto mode senses an incoming signal and drops back to standby once the input has been silent for a few minutes. The front carries a satin black lacquer bezel and a removable sculpted fabric grille, the sides and rear are covered in textured vinyl, and anti-slip rubber feet are fixed to the base. Power arrives through an IEC inlet with a drawer fuse and a mains switch, and Emotiva's warranty covers five years.
Pairing
An AV receiver or surround processor connects its sub pre-out to the LFE socket, while the XLR input fits preamplifiers and processors with balanced sub outputs. As the rear slot port needs free air, the XS10 needs a gap between the cabinet and the wall. Without speaker-level terminals, it needs a line-level sub output from the system.
Alternatives
The Emotiva Airmotiv XS12 moves up to a 12-inch driver with 500 W RMS and reaches down to 24 Hz.
