The TD6 is a nine-driver, three-way tower from Raidho Acoustics of Pandrup, Denmark, part of Dantax Radio A/S. It uses the Tantalum Diamond driver platform, debuted at High End 2022 and started at EUR 210,000 per pair. Raidho has since moved the model to its list of earlier designs.
Key specs that matter
The array consists of one TD6 ribbon tweeter, two 5 inch Tantalum Diamond midrange units and six 8 inch Tantalum Diamond woofers. Second-order filters cross over at 350 Hz and 3 kHz. Raidho gives the range as 25 Hz to 50 kHz within 3 dB, sensitivity as 87 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and nominal impedance as 8 ohm, and it asks for more than 100 W of amplifier power. Overall dimensions are 590 mm wide, 2,100 mm tall and 810 mm deep, while the cabinet proper occupies just 250 x 680 mm. One speaker weighs 130 kg. Piano black and walnut burl veneer are standard finishes, and custom colours are made to order.
Engineering and use context
The cone diaphragms are layered - an aluminium base, a ceramic layer, tantalum and finally a diamond coating 10 microns thick equal to 1.5 carats. Raidho develops these drivers entirely in-house and pairs N52 neodymium magnets with underhung titanium voice coils, a layout the company prefers to conventional overhung motors for linearity. Splitting the bass among six cones keeps each diaphragm moderate in size while giving a large total radiating area, and the two midrange units cover the band between the lower crossover and the tweeter. The ribbon is a planar magnetic design with an 11 micron foil weighing 20 mg, which Raidho puts at one fiftieth of the moving mass of a typical dome, and its first breakup occurs at 82 kHz. The enclosure is vented through six ports on the back panel. Mundorf supplies the crossover components, and the internal wiring is Nordost Norse cable using Valhalla technology. The narrow cabinet stands on a much wider base, which explains the difference between the enclosure footprint and the overall size.
Pairing
Its nominal load and middling efficiency favour a high-current solid-state stereo unit or twin monoblocks with output well beyond the stated minimum. Because all venting happens at the back, the towers need clear space behind them, and the combined mass calls for a floor able to carry more than a quarter of a tonne for the pair.
Alternatives
The Raidho TD3.10 is a TD Series floorstander that the company still lists among its current models.
