The Olympica Nova V is the tower with three woofers in the Olympica Nova collection from Sonus faber, a passive floorstanding loudspeaker Nova succeeds the original 2013 Olympica line as its second generation, which was the first Sonus faber family to use drivers designed in its own laboratories. Key specs that matter

Configuration is 3 way, in a full para-aperiodic Stealth Ultraflex vented box. The 28 mm H28 XTR3 tweeter uses a silk soft dome and a neodymium motor of cup design, the 150 mm M15 XTR2-04 midrange carries CCAW wire on its voice coil, and three 180 mm W18XTR2-12 woofers work below. Crossover frequencies are 250 Hz and 2500 Hz. Rated response is 32 Hz to 35000 Hz, with 90 dB SPL at 2.83 V and 1 m into a 4 ohm nominal load. Sonus faber suggests 60 W to 400 W of amplifier power without clipping and lists 22 Vrms as the long-term maximum input voltage to IEC 268-5. Dimensions are 1176 x 424 x 528 mm (HxWxD), and each speaker weighs 44 kg net.

Engineering and use context

As on the smaller models of the series, the top, sides and front baffle are hand-finished natural wood fixed into a die-cast aluminum plate. Leather from Italy, hand-applied at the Vicenza plant, surrounds the tweeter and midrange, known as the Voice of Sonus faber, and trims the three woofer rings. The DAD tweeter technology adds damping at the apex of the dome to suppress its anti-phase motion, and its arch and ring are now cast together in one aluminum piece. For the midrange, an air-dried blend of cellulose pulp, Kapok, Kenaf and other natural fibers is left unpressed, so its rougher surface of varied density keeps resonance down. Woofer cones, made in Italy, combine two layers of cellulose pulp with a syntactic foam core. The enclosure is built from eight layers of curved wood with internal ribs that brace it against driver movement.

Pairing

Paracross Topology in the crossover limits radio-frequency pickup and improves transient response, and the capacitors are made to Sonus faber specification. The extruded aluminum port, inherited from Homage Tradition, is profiled like sea waves to steady airflow. The speaker rests on redesigned bottom plates of solid aluminum fitted with steel spikes, a solution taken from the Homage Tradition and Reference collections for strength.
