The No.9.2 is a passive tower in the P-Series of plasma tweeter designs from the German company Lansche Audio, standing 219 cm tall and weighing 350 kg per cabinet. Lansche calls it a new form of sound architecture, and the cabinet is drawn with sharp contours and sweeping lines. It is also the only model in the range with a 3.5-way driver layout.

Key specs that matter

Seven units make up the driver complement - a 0.3 inch CORONA plasma tweeter, two 6.5 inch coated papyrus midrange cones, two 8 inch coated papyrus drivers and two 16 inch coated paper woofers, all in a bass reflex enclosure. Three crossover points are listed, at 80 Hz, 200 Hz and 2.5 kHz. Lansche quotes 18 Hz to 150 kHz within a 3 dB window and a sensitivity of 93 dB at 1 W and 1 m, the highest of any model it sells. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with a minimum of 3.4 ohm. The cabinet is 45 cm wide and 65 cm deep,. At launch a pair cost EUR 184,900, according to 2022 pricing. The three standard piano finishes are white, black and natural veneer, and a Macassar veneer version has also been shown.

Engineering and use context

Where the other towers split the band only twice, the No.9.2 adds a third, lowest division, so the pair of paper woofers gets its own low bass range beneath the four papyrus cones, which Lansche lists together as the midrange section. In the maker's words, the cabinet structure is laid out to give every one of these working ranges its best operating conditions. At the top, the CORONA unit replaces a diaphragm with a small cloud of ionised air created by a high voltage discharge. Since this ion field has practically no mass, it follows the modulating signal directly and radiates from what is close to a single point. The tweeter module on its own starts at 1.5 kHz and gives the full system its extreme upper limit. Lansche states that it designs each speaker as a combination of drivers, cabinet and crossover composed together, and it has kept the same tweeter principle at the centre of every model, from the standmount No.3.2 MKII up to this one.

Its low impedance with a deeper dip needs a current-capable amplifier, while the very high sensitivity means modest power goes a long way.
