The No.8.3 is the newest tower in the P-Series of Lansche Audio, the German loudspeaker company whose designs all carry its CORONA plasma tweeter. Lansche introduced it as a model that pairs this tweeter with new materials, manufacturing processes and technologies, and it sits between the No.7.2 MKII and the No.9.2 in the current line. Its most obvious departure from the other models is the bass section, built from a column of six woofers.

Key specs that matter

Configuration is 3-way with bass reflex loading. Above a 0.3 inch plasma tweeter and two coated papyrus midrange drivers of 6.5 inches, six coated aluminium woofers of 9 inches each cover the low end. Crossover frequencies are 200 Hz and 2.5 kHz. The rated bandwidth runs from 18 Hz to 150 kHz, plus or minus 3 dB, and sensitivity is 92 dB at 1 W and 1 m. The impedance is 8 ohm nominal, never dropping below 5.6 ohm. A single cabinet weighs 220 kg and measures 30.5 cm across, 207.5 cm tall and 76.2 cm front to back. Piano lacquer is offered in white, black and wood veneer.

Engineering and use context

No other speaker in the current Lansche range uses as many woofers, since both the 7.2 MKII and the 9.2 make do with two. The six aluminium cones are stacked in a front baffle that is barely wider than that of the far smaller No.5.2 MKII, and the cabinet is over 2 m tall. The midrange handover is set lower than on the No.7.2 MKII, so the papyrus pair works across a wider band before the plasma unit takes over. That tweeter works by corona discharge - a high voltage field ionises air into a small plasma, and the audio signal modulates this field so the ion cloud itself radiates the upper frequencies as an almost ideal point source. The module alone reaches down to 1.5 kHz. Rudiger Lansche, who co-founded the firm after a career in telecommunications, has worked with this type of ion tweeter for decades, and the company lists long-term model policy, sustainable production and comprehensive service among its principles. Its low-frequency limit matches the deepest figure quoted anywhere in the catalogue.

Pairing

Unlike its two 4 ohm neighbours in the range, this model presents a comparatively benign load, and its efficiency means modest amplifier power suffices.

Lansche's No.9.2 is the other tower with the same deep bass rating, using a 3.5-way layout with two 16 inch woofers and weighing 350 kg.
