The Motion XT F200 is the largest floorstander of MartinLogan's Motion XT series, the upper line of the Kansas company's Motion family. It is a three-way tower built around the brand's thin-film Folded Motion tweeter and three 8 in aluminium woofers, designed for large stereo systems and home cinema front channels alongside the matching Motion XT C100 centre and B100 bookshelf models.

Drivers are a Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion XT tweeter measuring 32 x 61 mm with a 79.8 cm2 diaphragm, a 6.5 in Nomex-reinforced Kevlar midrange and three 8 in aluminium-cone woofers. Crossover points are 300 Hz and 2600 Hz. Response runs from 27 Hz to 25 kHz (+/-3 dB), sensitivity is 92 dB, nominal impedance is 4 ohms, and amplifiers from 20 W up to 600 W are specified. Tweeter dispersion is 90 x 45 degrees. The cabinet measures 1289 x 349 x 419 mm in height, width and depth including feet, and each tower weighs 39 kg.

Engineering and use context

The XT version of the Folded Motion tweeter has about 40% more surface area than the standard Motion unit. Its pleated film diaphragm is loaded by a waveguide that controls dispersion to match the midrange. The midrange sits in its own sealed non-resonant chamber, so pressure from the woofers cannot modulate its cone, and uses unibody construction in a cast aluminium basket. The three woofers use oversized motors and cast aluminium baskets and vent through bottom-firing Twin Cannon ports that exhaust downward through the base, which reduces sensitivity to distance from the rear wall. Floor Bounce Compensation positions the woofers and tunes the crossover to account for the reflection from the floor. The McCracken-Vojtko crossover, named after MartinLogan's acoustic engineers, was developed with simulation software and double-blind listening tests. F.A.S.T. outrigger feet level the tower without tools, and Secure-Lock grille discs cover each driver individually. Five-way binding posts allow bi-wiring or passive bi-amping.

Pairing

High sensitivity lets the F200 reach high levels from modest power, but the low nominal impedance favours an amplifier with real current delivery. A stereo integrated or AV receiver rated for 4 ohm operation at 100 W or more suits larger rooms, and a MartinLogan Dynamo subwoofer handles the LFE channel in a cinema system. The warranty runs five years.
