Verity Audio's Lakmé is a three-way tower built by the Quebec-based manufacturer founded in 1995 and known for multi-enclosure designs with rear-firing woofers. It sits between the brand's compact Finn and larger Otello, and was developed specifically to be easy to place in small to average-sized rooms, with a more contemporary look aimed at a younger audience, including interchangeable front panels.
Key specs that matter
The Lakmé is a three-way passive radiator design. It uses a 2.5cm neodymium ring dome tweeter, a 12.7cm (5-inch) midrange with a coated natural paper pulp cone, a rear-firing 15cm (6-inch) woofer of the same cone material and two 15cm passive radiators. Frequency response is 35Hz to 25kHz and nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with a quoted minimum of around 4 ohms. Sensitivity is 91dB at 1W/1m. Each speaker measures 38.7 x 39.2 x 105.4cm and weighs 57kg.
Engineering and use context
The cabinet is built as a single column divided into two interconnected but independent compartments, separated by a special elastomer layer. The upper section holds Verity's patented neo ring tweeter and the wide-range midrange, while the lower section contains the rear-firing woofer and the two passive radiators. Passive radiators replace a conventional bass port - they reinforce low-frequency output like a port but without port air noise, and Verity chose this dual-radiator layout specifically to make the speaker easier to position in real rooms. The ring dome tweeter was chosen for its controlled radiation pattern. The lower compartment stands on an aluminium tripod with three adjustable feet, giving stable three-point contact on uneven floors. The woofer's decorative front plate can be removed and exchanged, so the finish can be customised without changing the lacquered cabinet, which comes in satin black or white, with optional Verity wood veneers. All transducers are custom-made for Verity to its own specifications, and connection is through silver-plated terminals.
Pairing
The high and stable impedance curve and good sensitivity make the Lakmé an easy load, and Verity quotes amplifiers from about 18W upward, which opens pairing with low-power tube designs as well as solid-state integrateds. Its passive radiator bass suits rooms of roughly 15 to 30 m2 where the speakers cannot be placed far from walls.
Alternatives
Verity Audio's Parsifal Anniversary is a second three-way Verity column, built from two isolated but attached cabinets.
