Canadian company Verity Audio builds the Florestan floor-standing speaker as a member of its eXR product family. It premiered at High End Munich 2023, presented as a two-cabinet, three-way bass-reflex design, with a monitor-style upper enclosure placed on a separate woofer cabinet.
Key specs that matter
Treble duty falls to a 2-inch (5.1 cm) pure aluminium ribbon of Verity's own production. A 6-inch (15.2 cm) doped polypropylene cone covers the midrange, and an 11-inch (27.9 cm) carbon-paper sandwich cone works as the woofer, both with 2-inch voice coils. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 60 kHz within 3 dB, and sensitivity is 93 dB at 1 W and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm with a minimum of 3.0 ohm, while Verity rates power handling at 250 W music power. Each speaker is 130.4 cm tall, 34.9 cm wide and 50.5 cm deep, and a pair weighs 136 kg net or 247 kg gross in shipping crates.
Engineering and use context
On top sits a partially open monitor enclosure. The ribbon tweeter sits flush in an aluminium front plate, and the midrange driver is mounted to the rear of that plate. Bass loading uses Verity's rear-oriented reflex tuning, and the cabinets rely on a dedicated array of inner braces and complex-angled panels to control resonance. The sandwich woofer is sourced from Audio Technology of Denmark. The two parts connect through a supplied 4-pin jumper connector, and the drivers are computer-matched and indexed in pairs. Underneath, the MASIS isolation base is a shell whose internal materials work as an acoustic resonator and filter, standing on four adjustable cushioned feet that do not damage floors and let the speaker be moved easily. Rhodium-plated connectors take the cables. Verity gives a break-in time of 75 hours for 63 percent and 400 hours for 99 percent. Standard finishes are high-gloss black or white and Makore high gloss, with other finishes available on approval.
Pairing
With its high sensitivity the Florestan suits low-powered valve amplifiers, and the manual advises using the 8 ohm output taps on tube equipment that offers several. Because impedance dips well below nominal at its minimum, a solid-state design should be stable into low loads.
Alternatives
The Lohengrin IIS is a larger four-way floorstander from Verity Audio, with a 15-inch woofer and 95 dB sensitivity.
