Arindal is a passive two-cabinet floorstander from Verity Audio, the Canadian loudspeaker company founded in 1995. It was presented to the public at High End 2022 in Munich, held from 19 to 22 May, and its owner's manual was released in August of that year. Verity designed it for moderate to large rooms, and the brand describes it as a model built for high performance across varied acoustic environments.

Key specs that matter

The Arindal is a three-way bass-reflex system. A 25 mm double neo ring soft dome handles the treble, a 150 mm doped polypropylene midrange driven by a 50 mm SD-1 High Power Underhung Motor covers the middle band, and a 241 mm carbon-paper sandwich cone woofer with a 76 mm SD-1 underhung motor looks after the bass. Verity quotes 20 Hz to 50 kHz within 3 dB and a sensitivity of 93 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m on axis. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm, dropping to a minimum of 3 ohm at 5.5 kHz. The minimum recommended amplifier power is 7 watts into 8 ohm, and the manual rates power handling at 250 watts music power. The cabinet measures 323 mm wide, 450 mm deep and 1,208 mm tall, with a weight of 126 kg per pair.

Engineering and use context

The two cabinets stack into one column but are isolated from each other by a damped aluminium platform 2.5 cm thick, coupled through special elastomers. The upper cabinet uses an open-back acoustic filter. At floor level the lower box sits on the MASIS base, short for Mechanical and Airborne Sound Isolation System, a shell filled with materials that act as a resonator and filter, standing on four hand-adjustable cushioned feet that do not mark floors. The crossover uses first-order slopes between woofer and midrange and third-order slopes between midrange and tweeter, and all parts are computer-matched and indexed. Verity states that the woofer and midrange are optimised for maximum cone rigidity without breakup, and that internal bracing splits panel resonances into higher, non-harmonically related frequencies. Standard finishes are high gloss black and white, with Makore high gloss on special order, and a five-year limited warranty from Verity applies.

Pairing

Verity states that the Arindal presents an easy load and has been evaluated with both solid state and vacuum tube amplifiers. With valve amplifiers that offer several output taps, the manual points to the 8 ohm taps. Input power should not exceed 150 watts rms. The rhodium-plated terminals take bare cable, bananas or spade lugs, and spade termination is the one the maker prefers.

Alternatives

The Verity Audio Otello is a smaller single-column floorstander from the same maker, built around two 178 mm woofers and a 5-inch midrange.
