The K10 is a floor-standing four-driver design built by the British company in Brackley, Northamptonshire. It sits above the K3, K6 and K6 Signature towers and the stand-mounted K1 in the same range, and it is the only K model on the maker's list with 8-inch bass units.

Key specs that matter

ProAc gives a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 91.5 dB linear for 1 watt at 1 metre. The frequency response is stated as 20 Hz to 30 kHz. Recommended amplifiers run from 10 to 500 watts. Each cabinet measures 1499 mm high, 297 mm wide and 457 mm deep and weighs 57 kg. Driver complement is two 200 mm bass units, one 75 mm dome midrange and a ribbon tweeter.

Engineering and use context

Both woofers are professional drive units with a pure polymer impregnated and polished Kevlar weave cone, finished with rear lacquer and concentric weighting. ProAc says the K10 cabinet was developed further to integrate this proven Kevlar driver. The midrange is the latest ProAc unit, with an ultra-lightweight domed diaphragm loaded by a redesigned wave guide and an open felt back that treats energy leaving the rear of the dome. The crossover was modified so that the midrange works up to a higher frequency, which the company says also raises power handling. The ribbon tweeter, shared across the K Series, has an alnico motor, damping behind the diaphragm and a ribbon ProAc rates as weighing less than a human hair. The crossover is assembled on its own two-layer circuit board, and every internal connection uses multistrand oxygen free copper wire made for ProAc. Six standard veneers are listed - Walnut, Cherry, Mahogany, Black Ash, Silk White and Natural Oak - while Rosewood, Tamo Ash, Liquidambar and Ebony are special veneers made to order at extra cost, and the featured example is shown in dark eucalyptus. A crimplene cloth cover comes as standard, and some veneers can be ordered with a magnetically fixed cover.

Pairing

ProAc divides the crossover so that the K10 accepts two runs of speaker cable per cabinet, or two amplifier channels per cabinet driving the bass and the upper section independently. The amplifier window quoted earlier covers low-powered designs at one end and heavy power amplifiers at the other.

Alternatives

The ProAc K6 Signature is a slimmer K Series floorstander with two smaller Kevlar bass units, a dome midrange and the same ribbon tweeter in a 1150 mm tall cabinet.
