The HYPERSPHERE comes from Acapella Audio Arts, a German maker that specialises in spherical and hyperspherical horns. Acapella's Alfred Rudolph designed it, and the system was first demonstrated to visitors at High End 2025 in Munich, in May of that year. Only five systems will be built, numbered 001 to 005, each with a serial number hand-signed by Rudolph. There is no fixed price - buyers submit offers, requests are ranked in the order they arrive, and an ownership contract follows when no higher offer stands.

Key specs that matter

Each channel pairs a 1700 mm hyperspherical wideband horn, driven by a new ultra-light 1.7-inch driver that covers seven octaves, with eight 15-inch woofers built into two bass towers. Those woofers work in parallel and give about three square metres of bass radiating area per channel. The quoted transmission range is 18 Hz to 40,000 Hz, efficiency is 103 dB at 1 W and 1 m, and impedance is 4 to 8 ohms. One channel stands 2700 mm tall, 1700 mm wide and 1300 mm deep, with a weight of 960 kg.

Engineering and use context

Acapella states that its hyperspherical horn profile widens the usable range of a horn from the usual three octaves to more than five, and the large version used here stretches that to seven, so a single driver handles everything above the bass towers. The numbered systems are listed with an extra subsonic bass horn about 5 m tall whose height can be adjusted to suit the room, loaded by four 15-inch drivers per unit, reaching below 30 Hz and offering 24 square metres of horn area. Standard finishes are black or white acrylic with the horn in any colour, and options include high-gloss lacquer and a gold-plated horn. Acapella installs every system itself in the owner's listening room. Before delivery the team plans sources, room specifications, mains supply and final design with the owner's architect and interior designers. The electronics can sit in a separate machine room so that only the speakers and perhaps a turntable stay in view, which also lets the annual service be carried out without interrupting listening.

Pairing

The system is delivered with Acapella Energèia amplifiers built specifically for it, together with dedicated cabling, power distribution and resonance-control parts. For scale, the Energèia Reference Mono power amplifier in the regular range is rated at more than 1000 W into 8 ohms per monoblock.

Alternatives

The Acapella Hyperion is a smaller floorstanding system with a 780 mm hyperspherical horn, a TW 1-S ion tweeter and a rated range of 16 Hz to 40 kHz at 300 kg per speaker.
