The Hyperion is a passive horn design made by Acapella Audio Arts, a German company whose Sonic Sanctuary showroom sits in Isen near Munich and whose home base is in Duisburg. Acapella places it in its current range as a reference system, and it combines a large bass enclosure, a hyperspherical midrange horn and the company's ion tweeter in one tower. In 2026 Acapella set up a full Hyperion system again in its Isen showroom for listening sessions by appointment.

Key specs that matter

Acapella gives a transmission range of 16 Hz to 40,000 Hz, which the company describes as more than 11 octaves of bandwidth. Efficiency is 96 dB at 1 W and 1 m, and the nominal impedance is 8 ohm. Each speaker weighs 300 kg. The cabinet on its own measures 2470 x 440 x 790 mm (height, width, depth), while the full assembly including its horn occupies 2470 x 780 x 940 mm.

Engineering and use context

The low range is handled by 15 inch drivers that Acapella states are manufactured exclusively for this model, housed in purpose-built enclosures to reach the lowest octave. Above them, the midrange is carried by a new 2.5 inch dome driver loaded into a hyperspherical horn with a mouth diameter of 780 mm, a horn unit developed specifically for the Hyperion. Acapella applies damping behind this dome to absorb the rear sound components of the diaphragm. The top octaves come from the TW 1-S, a plasma tweeter from the company's own range, which in this design is what gives the system its wide upper extension.

Pairing

For the 2026 showroom sessions Acapella drove the Hyperion with its own Energeia Reference Mono power amplifiers, bridged monoblocks rated at more than 1000 W into 8 ohm and more than 2000 W into 4 ohm each, weighing 85 kg per chassis and handmade in Germany, with pure silver signal wiring, an oversized 3 kV toroidal transformer and two pairs of silver-plated copper terminals per chassis for bi-wiring. These monoblocks switch on remotely through the Energeia Reference Pre, a fully balanced tube hybrid preamplifier in dual mono layout. The source chain at that time was an MSB Sentinel DAC fed by either an Innuos Nazare or a Pink Faun Ultra, and Acapella states that the system normally runs with an MSB Cascade DAC in its reference configuration.

Alternatives

Another floorstanding horn design from Acapella is the Triolon Excalibur MK V, rated at 25 Hz to 40 kHz and 94 dB with a 4 ohm load in a 200 kg enclosure.
