The Giya G3 Cu is the mid-sized four-way tower of Vivid Audio's Giya Cu range, positioned for homes without a dedicated listening room or with rooms too small for the G1 Spirit Cu and G2 Cu. Like every Giya model, it uses five drivers designed and made by Vivid, and it shares its midrange and treble units with the larger G2 Cu. The smaller G4 Cu completes the range below it.

Key specs that matter

Treble is handled by the 26 mm D26 alloy and carbon dome, the upper midrange from the 50 mm D50Cu dome with a copper cap, and the lower midrange from the C125SCu with a 125 mm alloy cone and a 50 mm voice coil. Two C135 bass drivers with 135 mm alloy cones, 76 mm voice coils and underhung motors, which Vivid rates as equivalent to 8 inch units, handle the low frequencies. The crossover divides the signal at 220 Hz, 880 Hz and 3,500 Hz. Sensitivity is 87 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and impedance is 6 ohm nominal and 4 ohm minimum. The G3 Cu covers 33 Hz to 36 kHz at -6 dB and 36 Hz to 33 kHz within ±2 dB. Power handling is 800 W RMS. It measures 1161 mm high, 341 mm wide and 578 mm deep and weighs 42 kg with the internal crossover or 37 kg with the external crossover.

Engineering and use context

The C135 bass drivers keep the motor structure and suspension profiles of the bass units in the larger Giya models, scaled to the smaller cone. Their voice coils are large relative to the cone, and the underhung motor design holds the coil inside an even field across its stroke. Behind the drivers, tapered tubes absorb the rear wave of the upper units, and the bass reflex enclosure curls into an exponentially tapered absorber at the top of the cabinet, which removes internal resonances without filling the box with damping material. The D26 tweeter's first break-up is at 44 kHz, well above the audio band. The enclosure is moulded as a glass-reinforced composite with a balsa core and a carbon-fibre base, formed by vacuum infusion into the curved Giya shape. As on the G2 Cu, an external crossover can be chosen, and the speaker can be driven actively by four amplifiers through an 8-way cable and a line-level crossover. Three standard colours are offered, glossy black, pearl white and a matte oyster shade.

Pairing

The G3 Cu suits amplifiers from moderate to high power in a room of about 20 m2 or more. Its power handling matches that of the larger G2 Cu.

Alternatives

The Vivid Giya G4 Cu is the smallest Giya, about 1 m tall with two 125 mm bass drivers.
