The Giya G4 Cu is the smallest member of Vivid Audio's Giya family, a compact floorstanding loudspeaker that remains a true four-way design with five drivers, all designed and made by Vivid. It sits below the G3 Cu, G2 Cu and G1 Spirit Cu in the Giya Cu range and keeps the curved composite shape of its larger siblings.

Key specs that matter

The G4 Cu uses the same D26 26 mm tweeter and D50Cu 50 mm upper midrange dome as the larger Giya models. The lower midrange is the C100SCu, a 100 mm alloy cone driven by a 50 mm coil in a copper-capped motor, rated by Vivid as equivalent to a 5.5 inch unit. Two C125L bass drivers with 125 mm metal cones on 50 mm coils in underhung motors, each comparable to a 7 inch unit, cover the low frequencies. Crossover frequencies are 250 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 4,000 Hz, higher than in the bigger models because of the smaller drivers. Sensitivity is 86 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and impedance is 6 ohm nominal with a 4 ohm minimum. The range reaches 36 Hz to 36 kHz at -6 dB, with ±2 dB from 39 Hz to 33 kHz. Harmonic distortion stays below 0.5% under 250 Hz, 0.1% from 250 Hz to 3.5 kHz and 0.3% above. Power handling is 400 W RMS. The G4 Cu measures 1011 mm high, 300 mm wide and 460 mm deep and weighs 25.4 kg with the internal crossover, or 21 kg when the crossover is housed externally.

Engineering and use context

As in the larger Giya models, each of the upper drivers is backed by a tapered tube that absorbs its rear radiation instead of letting it reflect inside the cabinet. The bass section is a reflex design whose enclosure continues into an exponentially tapered absorber, removing internal resonances while preserving port output. Copper capping of the midrange magnet systems lowers distortion, and the underhung bass motors keep the voice coils in a constant magnetic field. The enclosure is a sandwich of GRP layers bonded to balsa, standing on a carbon base, which combines stiffness with low weight. The same external crossover and active drive options as on the larger models are available, and the finishes follow those of the G2 Cu.

Pairing

With its modest sensitivity, the G4 Cu is best matched with amplifiers of moderate to high power. Its size suits rooms of about 20 m2.

Alternatives

The Vivid Giya G3 Cu is the next size up, with two 135 mm bass drivers, 87 dB sensitivity and 800 W power handling.
