Within PMC's fact range, the fenestria is a three-way transmission line tower built from separate modules and delivered in 10 boxes, eight elements per channel. PMC describes its cabinets as a vibration-cancelling design in which the engineering defines the look. The recommended retail price is USD 99,999 per pair, and each speaker stands 1700 mm tall, 370 mm wide and 623 mm deep at a weight of 80 kg.

Key specs that matter

There are four 6.5 inch bass pistons per channel with a transverse-weave carbon-fibre skin over a multicellular core. The midrange is a 75 mm rear-chambered soft dome held in an isolated nest mount. At the top sits a 19.5 mm SONOMEX soft dome with ferrofluid cooling, a 36 mm wide surround, a neodymium magnet and a micro custom chassis, isolated from the baffle by a silicone Aureole mount. The crossover divides the signal at 380 Hz and 3.8 kHz. Rated response is 23 Hz to 25 kHz, sensitivity is 86 dB for 1 W at 1 m and nominal impedance is 4 ohm, and PMC recommends amplifiers of 30 W to 1000 W.

Engineering and use context

The low-frequency section relies on PMC's Advanced Transmission Line loading in a double form, two lines each with an effective length of 2.4 m, giving 4.8 m of line in total. The bass enclosure is split into two identical cabinets, lower and upper, that lock together with a twist-lock mechanism, and the line has Laminair vents at top and bottom. Synthetic stone baffles carry the drivers, and the curved side panels act as tuned mass dampers mounted on compliant pins. Midrange and tweeter sit in an open-baffle machined aluminium nest, isolated from the metalwork by compliant mountings. The fourth-order crossover is housed in a machined MDF plinth fitted with four stainless steel spikes, and high and low frequency output adjusters are provided. PMC gives a 20-year warranty. Connection is through three pairs of Hex-Rhodium 4 mm binding posts, which allows single wiring, bi-wiring or tri-amping of the three sections. Finishes listed are Tiger Ebony, Rich Walnut and White Silk.

Pairing

A low impedance combined with modest efficiency calls for a powerful solid-state amplifier with good current delivery, and PMC's power ceiling shows how much headroom the fenestria accepts. The three terminal pairs make a tri-amplified setup with three stereo power amplifiers possible.
