The fact.12 signature is a narrow three-way model in PMC's fact range, hand-assembled and tested in the UK and covered by a 20-year warranty. The Signature status lies entirely in the crossover network, which uses parts and construction methods taken from the fenestria. Existing fact.12 owners can have their speakers upgraded to Signature status, and the European price for a new pair is EUR 24,190, with a UK price of GBP 14,995. Current finishes are White Silk and Metallic Graphite, as wood veneer is no longer offered.
Key specs that matter
Two 140 mm super-long-throw bass drivers with coated aluminium cones share the low range. A 50 mm soft-dome midrange with ferrofluid cooling covers the middle band, and the tweeter is a 19 mm SONOMEX soft dome with a 34 mm roll surround, also cooled by ferrofluid. Crossover points are 400 Hz and 4 kHz. PMC gives a response of 26 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB, a sensitivity of 84 dB for 1 W at 1 m and an impedance of 8 ohm, and PMC recommends amplifiers rated from 40 W to 500 W. The cabinet is 1110 mm high plus 25 mm spikes, 168 mm wide plus 100 mm ingot feet and 420 mm deep plus 2 mm terminals, and each speaker weighs 26 kg.
Engineering and use context
Both bass units drive a folded ATL path of 3.3 m effective length inside the narrow cabinet. PMC's argument for ATL is that it handles rear bass-driver energy more efficiently than a ported or sealed enclosure. The Signature crossovers are built on military-grade circuit boards and populated with hand-selected components, and their placement on the board is calculated to minimise interference between parts. Resistors are Mundorf MResist Supreme types, custom capacitors came out of two years of research with the University of Salford, and the bass section uses custom air-core inductors. Filter slopes are 24 dB per octave. The Signature version was introduced at the 2019 Munich High End Show, while the drivers are unchanged from the original fact.12 of 2013. Rear-panel switches adjust the high and low frequency balance. Three pairs of 4 mm PMC Ag terminals accept tri-wire or tri-amp connection.
Pairing
Given the low sensitivity, amplification in the higher part of the recommended power range suits the fact.12 signature, while the nominal impedance is easy on most solid-state designs. Owners with several stereo power amplifiers can use the three terminal pairs to drive bass, midrange and treble separately.
Alternatives
The fenestria is the larger floorstander of the fact series, using a double 2.4 m transmission line and a 75 mm dome midrange in an 80 kg cabinet.
