The Divin Noblesse sits in the middle of the Divin line of Göbel High End. Oliver Göbel set up the firm in 2003 after leaving Siemens, where he led loudspeaker engineering. Göbel moved to a new factory near Munich in 2022, designed architecturally by Oliver Göbel himself. The Divin line looks more conventional than the company's Epoque Aeon models, but it still uses his patented bending-wave technology in its midrange driver.

Key specs that matter

The layout is symmetrical around a 5.6 in Air Motion Transformer tweeter, flanked above and below by an 8 in midrange and a 12 in woofer. Crossovers are at 140 Hz and 1600 Hz. Frequency response is 21 Hz to 24 kHz, sensitivity is 95 dB and impedance is 4 ohms. The speaker measures 168 cm high, 56 cm wide and 82 cm deep and weighs 260 kg.

Engineering and use context

The midrange drivers incorporate bending-wave technology. Where a conventional cone moves as a piston, a bending-wave diaphragm is designed to flex in controlled patterns, radiating over a wide band with wide dispersion. Göbel holds a patent for an acoustic application of stiff-diaphragm bending-wave transducers, the basis on which he founded the company. Göbel states that the midrange driver is the result of more than 15 years of development. The large AMT tweeter takes over at 1600 Hz and is loaded by a waveguide milled from solid aluminium. Its pleated membrane squeezes air from its folds, giving high output and low moving mass, which matches the high sensitivity of the rest of the system. The symmetrical placement of drivers about the tweeter keeps the acoustic centre in the middle of the array and makes the vertical radiation pattern even. The cabinet has an angular hourglass form built from multiple layers of material, and it is ported to the front by four ports, which suits placement nearer the rear wall than rear-ported designs. The front baffle of the Divin models is up to 75 mm thick. The finish is a two-tone lacquer.

Pairing

Its high sensitivity lets it reach high levels with modest power, and the impedance curve is fairly flat with a minimum of 3.8 ohms at 100 Hz, although the load still calls for amplifiers able to deliver plenty of current. It pairs with Göbel's Divin Sovereign subwoofer in the largest systems and suits rooms of 35 m2 and above.

Alternatives

Göbel High End's Divin Marquis is the smaller model of the Divin line built on the same principles.
