The Divin Monarque is a three-way Göbel High End floorstander that brings the design approach of the company's Divin Majestic into a smaller cabinet, aimed at listening spaces that cannot take the bigger model's bulk. Its European price was expected to start at EUR 469,000 per pair.
Key specs that matter
Two proprietary 15-inch long-throw bass chassis, two proprietary 8-inch midrange units and an improved AMT tweeter in an aluminium waveguide make up the driver set. Crossover points are 120 Hz and 1,600 Hz. Göbel quotes a response of 21 Hz to 24,000 Hz, a sensitivity of 96 dB at 1 W and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm, dipping lower in the bass. The cabinet is 194 cm tall and 84 cm deep, and it tapers from 54 cm wide at the front to 68 cm at the back. One speaker weighs 380 kg, rising to 480 kg in its flight case.
Engineering and use context
The midrange uses an 8-inch carbon and paper membrane with Göbel's proprietary bending wave technology. The bass drivers have optimised motor systems, glass fibre voice coil formers and light membranes intended for linear behaviour. Göbel's reflex enclosure is made from resin-bonded composite materials with constrained-layer damping, extensive internal bracing and Helmholtz resonators, and it carries a decoupled aluminium front baffle, with wall thickness reaching 105 mm. All materials are tropical room proof. The crossover parts use point-to-point hand wiring and are placed in isolated, sealed chambers, one per frequency band, sealed with epoxy resin and isolated on silent blocks to keep them away from cabinet vibration. The speaker ships as a single-piece enclosure, so no stacking or assembly is needed on site, although at this weight the delivery route and the floor both need checking before it arrives. In its regular version the cabinet wears black piano lacquer, combined with aluminium details in a black soft-touch ultra-matt coating and real 24 carat gold leaf highlights, while bespoke colours may be specified by the buyer.
Pairing
The high sensitivity means even amplifiers of small output, valve single-ended types among them, can play the Monarque loud. The impedance minimum of 3.2 ohm at 64 Hz, where the woofers do most of the work, favours an amplifier that is able to hold steady and deliver current as the load falls.
Alternatives
The Göbel Divin Majestic is the larger model this design was scaled from, using two 18-inch woofers and a 98 dB efficiency in a 530 kg cabinet.
