The Divin Marquis is a German three-way floorstander made by Göbel High End, and among the big Divin floorstanders it is the smallest, standing well under the height of the Divin Monarque and Divin Majestic. It uses a single woofer, a single midrange and an AMT tweeter in a symmetrical bass reflex cabinet built with the brand's layered damping approach.
Key specs that matter
A proprietary 12-inch long-throw bass chassis is mounted in the constrained-layer damped front baffle, a proprietary 8-inch midrange uses Göbel's bending wave technology, and an AMT tweeter works with a massive aluminium waveguide. The crossover divides the signal at 140 Hz and 1,600 Hz. Göbel lists a range of 21 Hz to 28,000 Hz at -3 dB and an efficiency of 92 dB at 1 W and 1 m, with a nominal impedance of 4 ohm falling to a minimum of 3.4 ohm at 95 Hz. Each cabinet is 118 cm tall, 41 cm wide and 72 cm deep, and weighs 150 kg, or 180 kg packed in its flight case.
Engineering and use context
Göbel makes the cabinet as a sandwich enclosure made of multilayered resin-bonded composite panels, rated as tropical room proof, up to 75 mm thick, combined with constrained-layer damping and kinetic mass dampening to keep the walls rigid and quiet. The crossover sits in a totally isolated, resonance-optimised sealed chamber, with a separate box for each of the three ways, and it is hand-wired point to point using high-grade parts. Placing the 12-inch woofer directly in the damped front baffle is meant to give a smooth transition from the midrange down into the low frequencies. The bending wave midrange is the same core idea used across the Divin range, where the membrane's resonance behaviour is shaped rather than suppressed. Göbel's default look combines black piano lacquer with soft-touch aluminium trim in matt black and silver brushed highlights, while alternative colours can be ordered. Given its weight, the speaker still needs two people and careful floor protection when it is moved into position.
Pairing
With its fairly high efficiency, a moderately rated amplifier can push the Marquis to high levels, which widens the choice to include capable valve designs. Because the impedance dips in the upper bass, a partner that copes with a 4 ohm class load and supplies current there is the safer choice.
Alternatives
Within the same series, Göbel's Divin Monarque offers a bigger cabinet carrying two 15-inch woofers, two 8-inch midranges and 96 dB efficiency.
