The Beolab 90 Phantom Edition is a limited version of the Bang & Olufsen Beolab 90, released in December 2025 as the second of five Atelier editions celebrating the company's centenary. It arrived together with the Mirage Edition, and each of the two is restricted to ten pairs worldwide. Pricing for the Phantom and Mirage pair starts at GBP 339,000, compared with GBP 121,400 per pair for the regular Beolab 90.
Key specs that matter
The Phantom keeps the full acoustic specification of the original model launched in 2015. That means 18 purpose-built drivers in every cabinet, powered by internal amplifiers with a combined output of 8,200 W per speaker. Seven tweeters of 1 inch and seven midrange units of 4.5 inch sit around the upper body, while three 10 inch woofers and a 13 inch front woofer cover the low range. The frequency range extends below 12 Hz and above 43,000 Hz. Each speaker is 73.5 cm wide, 125.3 cm tall and 74.7 cm deep, and it weighs about 135 kg. Maximum level is quoted at 126 dB SPL at 1 m.
Engineering and use context
The design takes its cues from motorsport and is finished entirely in deep black, while the Mirage from the same launch is purple and the first Atelier edition, the Titan, is silver. The Monarch and Zenith later completed the series of five. A partly see-through black PVD metal mesh covers the acoustic openings and lets the internal structure show through. The face mask, the shoulder plates and the base panels are made of hand-layered carbon fibre, framed by a pearl-blasted aluminium skeleton. A certificate of authenticity is included with every pair. Inside, nothing departs from the regular model, which uses beamforming that allows the dispersion to be made narrow for a single seat or wide for a larger listening area. As an active system with 14 ICEpower amplifiers plus four further class D units inside each cabinet, it does not depend on outboard amplification.
Pairing
The Phantom Edition is connected to a source or a preamplifier without any power amplifier in between. Its carbon and black metal finish differs visually from the rest of the Atelier line, so it suits a room where the speaker is treated as a dark sculptural object. Floor strength and access for delivery should be checked, since each cabinet is heavy.
Alternatives
The Bang & Olufsen Beolab 90 Mirage Edition is the sister release from the same launch, built on the identical speaker and also limited to ten pairs.
