The Beolab 90 Mirage Edition is a colour-shifting special version of the Danish active floorstanding speaker, announced by Bang & Olufsen on 11 December 2025 and presented at the company's new Culture Store in San Francisco. It is the second of five Atelier editions made for the brand's centenary, following the Titan Edition, and was launched together with the Phantom Edition. Production is capped at ten pairs worldwide, each supplied with a certificate of authenticity, and Bang & Olufsen quotes its cost individually on request.
Key specs that matter
The acoustic hardware is unchanged from the Beolab 90 introduced in 2015. Every enclosure holds 18 Scan-Speak drivers - seven 1-inch Illuminator tweeters, seven 4.5-inch Illuminator midrange units, three 10-inch Discovery woofers and one 13-inch Revelator woofer facing forward. Bang & Olufsen specifies a range from below 12 Hz to above 43,000 Hz and a maximum level of 126 dB SPL for a pair at 1 m. Each cabinet is 73.5 cm wide, 125.3 cm high and 74.7 cm deep and weighs 137 kg, and the design work on the original model came from Noto GmbH.
Engineering and use context
What separates this version is its surface treatment. Five precision-milled aluminium parts on each speaker receive gradient anodising in Bang & Olufsen's own laboratory, so the colour shifts in graduated steps across the metal, and master craftsmen then polish them by hand. Wave-like textures are worked into these parts to picture the link between sound and light. The acoustic fabric is iridescent and moves from sapphire blue to magenta depending on lighting and on the angle it is viewed from. Behind that fabric, the digital controls of the standard model remain in place. Beam Width Control switches between Narrow, Wide and Omni patterns, aimed respectively at one central listening seat, a broader listening area and a 360-degree spread. In Narrow mode less energy reaches the side walls, and the manual advises placing the listening position at the same distance from each speaker as the speakers are from each other.
Pairing
No external amplifier is involved, because each driver is powered by a dedicated amplifier in the cabinet. The primary speaker accepts analogue signals over RCA or balanced XLR, digital audio over S/PDIF, optical and USB-B, and also carries a USB-A port and an Ethernet socket, while wireless reception uses WiSA.
