The 5050 is a floorstanding model of the 5000 series from British loudspeaker maker Q Acoustics, a line designed to serve two-channel music setups as well as surround installations. It was announced in March 2024 at GBP 1,299, EUR 1,699 and USD 2,499 per pair. The other members of the series are the 5010 bookshelf model, the 5020 stand-mount, the 5040 floorstander and the 5090 centre channel. Buyers choose between Santos Rosewood, Holme Oak, and a satin paint finish in either white or black.

Key specs that matter

Two 150 mm bass units are combined with a single 25 mm treble unit in a two-way layout, and the crossover sits at 2.7 kHz. The rated frequency response is 37 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB, with sensitivity of 91.8 dB measured with 2.83 V at 1 kHz. Nominal impedance is 6.0 ohm, and the curve drops to a minimum of 3.0 ohm. Including spikes and stabiliser, each speaker is 1017 mm tall, 366 mm wide and 336 mm deep, and it weighs 21.6 kg. The effective cabinet volume is 39.7 litres.

Engineering and use context

The bass units are built on the C3 Continuous Curved Cone, a shape said by its maker to blend the low-frequency advantages of a straight conical cone and the upper-range control of a flared one. The same cone profile, first used in the 5000 series and the M40 powered speaker, later moved into the 3000c range launched in 2024. The tweeter is hermetically sealed and floats mechanically from the baffle, which the maker links to preventing internal pressure problems and lowering distortion. Point to Point bracing is placed at the internal areas of the cabinet most prone to low-frequency reverberation. Four Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser tubes inside the enclosure reduce internal pressure and standing waves. The front baffle is laminated with a layer of butyl rubber and finished with black acrylic trim to suppress vibration. These cabinet features were first introduced in the higher-priced Concept range. Solid aluminium stabilisers carry spikes that are adjusted from above, which makes levelling easier.

Pairing

Q Acoustics recommends amplifiers of 25 to 150 W for the 5050. Durable low-profile speaker terminals are fitted at the rear. The box holds grilles, foam bungs, eight spike feet with covers, eight M5 screws and four rear stabilisers along with the owner's manuals.
