Linn's 360 Passive with Active Bass, often shortened to PWAB, is the part-active form of the 360 four-way floorstander that the Scottish company launched in April 2023. Its upper three driver sections are fed by external power amplifiers through a passive analogue crossover, while the twin woofers carry their own built-in amplification. This makes it the entry route into the 360 range - in 2026 a pair cost 67,000 GBP, 79,930 EUR or 71,500 USD, and the cabinet is ready to be taken to full Exakt operation later.

Key specs that matter

The driver complement runs from a 19 mm beryllium dome tweeter and a 64 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome midrange to a 190 mm upper bass cone in an aluminium-magnesium alloy, with two 220 mm long-throw aluminium cones below it. Linn gives 20 Hz to 28 kHz within ±2 dB and an efficiency of 87 dB for 1 W at 1 m. The woofers are powered by two internal 500 W amplifiers based on Power DAC technology, which digitises the incoming analogue signal instead of using a conventional amplifier stage. Enclosure volume is 60 litres, the speaker measures 1141 x 411 x 484 mm including its stand, and the total mass with stand is 70 kg. The mains input is auto-ranging, covering 90 to 135 V or 180 to 265 V AC.

Engineering and use context

On the back are 4 mm terminals for the upper bass, midrange and tweeter, a balanced XLR line input and a covered pair of Exakt sockets. For each channel a FEED switch decides where the active woofers get their signal - INT takes it from the upper bass terminals, while XLR takes a line-level feed, which Linn describes as the better-quality option. GAIN switches match the bass level to the sensitivity of the chosen power amplifier. In the external active configuration a single Exaktbox now serves both speakers over Exakt link, whereas earlier Linn systems needed two boxes. The stand carries four adjustable spikes with lock nuts, and Linn suggests its Skeets under the spikes on hard floors. Units built before September 2024 have beryllium tweeters, so the grille has to stay in place to protect the dome. A Pistonik motor upgrade for the bass drivers, priced at 16,500 GBP, can be added later.

Pairing

Linn's own documentation shows the PWAB used with Klimax Twin or Klimax Solo 800 power amplifiers, and with a Selekt DSM as the source and control unit. A preamplifier or streamer with balanced line outputs lets the XLR feed mode be used for the active woofers.

Alternatives

The Linn 360 Exakt Integrated shares this cabinet and driver set but builds all amplification and digital crossover filtering into the speaker.
