The 150 is a compact three-way passive floorstanding loudspeaker from Linn of Glasgow, launched in September 2024. In the current Linn speaker range it sits between the 119 standmount and the 360 floorstander, and the US price starts at USD 7,805 per pair. It was designed so that an owner can later move it from passive operation to Linn's Exakt digital crossover system without replacing the speaker.

Key specs that matter

Three drive units share the front baffle. A 19.55 mm soft Sonomex dome tweeter with a large ferrite magnet and a voice coil cooled in ferrofluid handles the top, a 160 mm midrange covers the middle band, and a 190 mm bass unit takes the lowest octaves - both cones use Nextel-coated paper diaphragms on large ferrite motors built for high linear excursion. Linn gives a response of 38 Hz to beyond 20 kHz at +/-3 dB, sensitivity of 86 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. Internal volume is 40 litres. The cabinet is 939 mm high, 210 mm wide and 297 mm deep (1000 x 234 x 321 mm overall), and each speaker weighs 21.56 kg. Buyers choose from oak or walnut veneer, or a satin paint in black or white.

Engineering and use context

Bass is vented through two ports that fire downward from the base, which spreads low frequencies in all directions and keeps port openings off the front and rear panels. In passive form the 150 runs from a lower-order analogue crossover. That network can be bypassed in minutes, turning the speaker into an Exakt model in which filtering is handled digitally and each driver receives its own amplifier channel. Exakt operation needs either an Exaktbox or a Selekt DSM fitted with three amplifier cartridges, and Linn states that no Aktiv cards exist for this model. Three pairs of binding posts on the back provide the separate feeds for this mode. No grille covers the drivers, and a magnetically attached trim panel carries concentric grooves that echo a record surface, a styling cue borrowed from the 360. Four spikes are included, and an optional aluminium plinth became available in 2025 as an upgrade.

Pairing

The modest sensitivity and low nominal impedance suggest partnering it with amplification that is comfortable driving such a load and can supply plenty of current, rather than a small low-output design. Linn's own suggested system combines a pair of 150s with the Selekt DSM Classic Hub, which can start as a passive setup and later be upgraded with Exakt conversion, new DAC modules and software updates.
