The 360 Passive with Aktiv Bass, shortened by Linn to PWAB, is a four-way tower speaker made by Linn in Scotland. The 360 is offered in two versions, the fully integrated 360 Exakt and this PWAB model, which is designed for use with Klimax Solo power amplifiers and can later be converted to Exakt. In Linn's current loudspeaker range it sits above the 150 floorstander and the 119 bookshelf model.

Key specs that matter

Each speaker uses five drivers. The tweeter is a 19 mm dome. The midrange is a 64 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome, the upper bass a 190 mm aluminium and magnesium cone, and the lower bass comes from two 220 mm long-throw aluminium drivers with Linn's Pistonik motor system. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 28 kHz ±2 dB, and sensitivity is 87 dB at 1 W and 1 m. The cabinet volume is 60 litres. Two built-in 500 W Power DAC amplifiers drive the lower bass section. With its stand the speaker measures 1141 mm high, 411 mm wide and 484 mm deep, and it weighs 66.4 kg, or 70 kg including the stand.

Engineering and use context

In the PWAB version the tweeter, midrange and upper bass run through a passive crossover driven by external amplifiers, while the two lower bass drivers have their own built-in amplification. The Power DAC amplifiers combine digital to analogue conversion and amplification in one process. The passive crossover is built without a circuit board, with its components held in vibration-absorbing glue and connected by point-to-point wiring, which Linn designed for very low resonance. The upper bass, midrange and tweeter sections connect through separate 4 mm sockets, so each can be driven by its own amplifier channel, and the lower bass takes its signal through switchable 4 mm or XLR inputs. An Exakt input and an external Exakt Box or Exakt link option prepare the speaker for later conversion to full Exakt operation. The Pistonik motor system in the lower bass drivers is designed for long, controlled cone travel. Finishes span the Glasgow collection with Clyde Built, Single Malt and Linn Heritage, the Signature Triton finish, and Classic Piano Black, Alpine White and Walnut, with silver or black anodised trim and custom options.

Pairing

The PWAB is intended for Linn Klimax Solo power amplifiers on the passive sections, with the built-in Power DAC amplifiers handling the lower bass. Owners can later add Exakt electronics to convert the system into a fully digital active 360 Exakt.

Alternatives

The Linn 150 is the smaller passive floorstander in the current Linn range.
