The 3050c is the floorstander of the 3000c range from British maker Q Acoustics. The series was presented in May 2024 at the High End show, and the line-up also covers the 3010c bookshelf model, the 3020c and 3030c stand-mounts and the 3090c centre channel. At announcement the 3050c pair was listed at GBP 849, EUR 1,099 and USD 1,349. Finishes are Pin Oak, Claro Walnut, Satin White and Satin Black.
Key specs that matter
Two 142 mm bass units share the cabinet with one 22 mm treble unit, and the crossover frequency is 2.4 kHz. Q Acoustics specifies a frequency response of 42 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB and a sensitivity of 90.0 dB at 1 m with 2.83 V at 1 kHz. Nominal impedance is 6 ohm, falling to a minimum of 3.8 ohm. Each speaker measures 1021 mm high, 315 mm wide and 316 mm deep with spikes and stabiliser fitted, weighs 17.8 kg and has an effective internal volume of 41.6 litres.
Engineering and use context
The bass units use the C3 Continuous Curved Cone profile, which the company first applied in its 5000 series and in the M40 powered micro-tower. According to Q Acoustics, the shape merges the bass behaviour of a straight conical cone with the midrange and upper control of a flared cone, giving smoother integration with the tweeter and lower harmonic distortion. The hermetically sealed tweeter is mechanically isolated, or floating, from the front panel. Cabinet features were carried over from the Concept 300 and Concept 500. Point to Point bracing ties panels together at chosen spots to cut reverberation, and Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser tubes, fitted only to the 3050c within this range, disrupt the build-up of standing waves. Driver trims are satin nickel, with satin chrome used on the white version. The range ships in recyclable egg crate packaging that replaces expanded polystyrene.
Pairing
Q Acoustics recommends partnering amplifiers that deliver 25 to 150 W. Each speaker is supplied with a grille, spike feet, a stabiliser and foam bungs. For a multichannel system, Q Acoustics presents the 3090c centre channel as the model that completes the 3000c family for home cinema.
Alternatives
The Q Acoustics 3050i is the floorstander of the earlier 3000i range, fitted with two 165 mm bass units and a single tweeter crossing over at 2.5 kHz.
