The X1.6 is a two-way standmount built by Raidho Acoustics of Denmark. It combines the brand's ribbon tweeter, hand-built in Denmark, with a single 6.5 inch Ceramix mid-bass unit in a vented enclosure that breathes through a rear-facing port.
Key specs that matter
Frequency range is 45 Hz to 50 kHz within 3 dB. Sensitivity is 87 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and nominal impedance is above 6 ohm. The crossover hands over at 3.5 kHz, and Raidho asks for amplifiers of more than 50 W. Each speaker measures 200 mm wide, 360 mm high and 265 mm deep and weighs 11.5 kg. Black piano and white piano are the two finishes. The X1t sits below it with a 70 Hz to 50 kHz range and a 143 x 315 x 230 mm cabinet, which shows how much bass extension the larger cone and bigger enclosure add.
Engineering and use context
Raidho builds its ribbon as a planar magnetic unit whose foil is only 11 microns thick. Its moving mass is about 20 milligrams, which the maker puts at one fiftieth of a typical dome, while the first breakup lies near 82 kHz, well beyond audibility. The Ceramix mid-bass cone starts as a thin aluminium cone with an aluminium oxide ceramic layer bonded to its outer surface, a pairing that raises stiffness while keeping weight down. Its motor carries two rows of neodymium magnets in a push-pull arrangement, meant to keep the drive force linear as the cone moves. The front baffle is cast aluminium 20 mm thick, a construction the maker notes is normally found only on far more expensive speakers, and it gives both drivers a rigid mounting plate. With its port on the rear, the speaker needs some clearance from the rear wall for the bass loading to work as designed.
Pairing
The impedance is easy for most amplifiers, though the moderate sensitivity means that output well beyond the recommended minimum is useful in a room of about 20 m2. The compact cabinet suits rigid stands that bring the ribbon tweeter level with the ears of someone seated, and the modest weight is manageable on most sturdy stand tops. The high crossover point keeps the ribbon out of the lower midrange, leaving the Ceramix cone in charge of the full midrange.
Alternatives
The Raidho X1t is a smaller two-way standmount from the same Danish maker, using a 5.25 inch Ceramix driver with 85 dB sensitivity and 8 kg weight.
