The S880DB MKII is Edifier's second version of its compact S880DB active bookshelf pair, announced in October 2025 with a redesigned mid-bass driver, a larger tweeter, LDAC Bluetooth and a subwoofer output. The cabinets have rounded edges and come in white and walnut versions, the white one pairing a white front baffle with wood side panels. Wired and wireless Hi-Res logos are both granted to it, and Edifier covers it for two years.

Key specs that matter

A 1.25 inch titanium dome tweeter with a 25 mm voice coil and a neodymium magnet sits above a redesigned 3.75 inch long-throw mid-low unit whose diaphragm is aluminium. Output totals 88 W RMS, split between 12 W per channel for treble and 32 W per channel for the mid-low drivers. The frequency range is quoted at 50 Hz to 40 kHz, and Edifier rates signal-to-noise at no less than 85 dB(A). The active speaker measures 145 x 237 x 207 mm and the passive one 145 x 237 x 192 mm, and Edifier lists a total weight of 6.27 kg.

Engineering and use context

Texas Instruments chipsets work with an XMOS XU216 processor that performs the full digital signal processing. The USB-C, optical and coaxial inputs accept up to 24-bit/192 kHz, while two separate RCA line inputs are digitised at 24-bit/96 kHz. Bluetooth 5.3 carries LDAC at up to 990 kbps, allowing wireless playback at up to 24-bit/96 kHz from Android 8.0 or later. The system has no aptX of any kind, no AirPlay, no HDMI connection and no built-in phono stage. An OLED display on the active speaker dims automatically. Control comes through a rechargeable remote working on 2.4 GHz rather than infrared, and through the EDIFIER ConneX app, which covers volume, input choice, playback and adjustment of the sound effect presets.

Pairing

Because the analogue inputs are line level, a turntable needs an external phono preamplifier on one RCA pair, leaving the second for another analogue source. A computer connects over USB-C, and a television or CD transport over the optical or coaxial socket. The SUB OUT port lets an external powered subwoofer extend the range below the lower limit of the small mid-low cone. The box contains a USB-C cable, an RCA pair and a 3.5 mm to RCA lead, so a phone, a second line source and a computer can be connected straight from the box.

Alternatives

The original Edifier S880DB uses a 3/4 inch titanium tweeter, stops at 55 Hz and supports aptX over Bluetooth, but has no subwoofer output.
