The S4b is the bookshelf model in the Perlisten S-Series, a compact three-way speaker with a sealed cabinet. Perlisten positions it as a standalone 2-channel speaker with a subwoofer, as an LCR channel in a cinema layout, or for surround duty. For wall mounting the cabinet has a keyhole fitting, and Perlisten also offers an optional bracket.
Key specs that matter
The enclosure is an acoustic suspension alignment. Sensitivity is 85.4 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and impedance is 4 ohm nominal with a 3.2 ohm minimum. For the listening window Perlisten specifies a 1.5 dB tolerance either way between 100 Hz and 20 kHz. At the minus 10 dB points the range reaches from 36 Hz up to 37 kHz, and Perlisten gives 30 Hz as the typical in-room bass extension. The recommended amplifier power is 50 to 300 W RMS. Peak SPL capability between 100 Hz and 20 kHz is 111 dB with under 2 percent second and third harmonic distortion. The cabinet measures 420 mm high, 240 mm wide and 300 mm deep, and one speaker weighs 11.0 kg.
Engineering and use context
The upper range is the job of the DPC-Array, a proprietary directivity pattern control arrangement. A 28 mm beryllium dome tweeter sits at its centre, flanked by two 28 mm ultra-lightweight Textreme thin-ply carbon diaphragm (TPCD) domes working as midrange units inside a dish-shaped waveguide of glass-reinforced plastic. Below them a 180 mm woofer with a Textreme TPCD cone covers the bass. The front baffle is CNC machined, and internal bracing isolates the woofer from the tweeter and midrange array. Perlisten uses the same beryllium and carbon fibre diaphragm materials across the whole S-Series to keep the models tonally matched, so the S4b can share a system with larger S-Series models. The S-Series speakers were the first loudspeakers certified for THX Dominus, the highest THX rating. Piano Black and Gloss White come as standard, with Cherry Natural, Black Cherry Natural, Ebony Natural and Ebony High Gloss wood options and custom paint in any PANTONE colour.
Pairing
A sealed design with a low impedance minimum and modest sensitivity calls for a partner rated for such loads that delivers real current across the recommended power band. In a home cinema the S4b can serve as front, centre or surround channels alongside other S-Series speakers, with a Perlisten subwoofer carrying the lowest octave.
