The A3m is the monitor model of Perlisten's A-Series, the most affordable range from the American company known for being the first loudspeaker brand to earn THX Dominus certification. Perlisten compares its S, R and A lines to the tiers of a car manufacturer, and the A-Series carries in-house designed drivers into a lower price bracket. The A3m is a large sealed monitor designed for stereo, left-centre-right or surround duty.
Key specs that matter
It is a sealed two-way design with a 35 mm composite Teteron dome tweeter in a custom waveguide and two carbon fibre woofers. Perlisten quotes response of 41 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB, with in-room extension to about 31 Hz, sensitivity of 87.4 dB and nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The recommended amplifier range is 50 W to 250 W, and peak output reaches 111.4 dB SPL. The cabinet measures 675 x 280 x 350 mm (H x W x D).
Engineering and use context
The A3m uses an acoustic suspension enclosure rather than a port, which makes bass response less dependent on nearby walls, shelves or media furniture. That suits wall-mounted surround and LCR use, where port output would interact with the boundary. Both the carbon fibre woofers and the Teteron tweeter are designed and manufactured by Perlisten. Carbon fibre keeps the cones light yet rigid, and two woofers share the excursion load for higher output than a single driver in the same cabinet. The tweeter sits in a waveguide that controls its dispersion and, together with the placement of the woofers, sets the speaker's directivity. This is a simpler form of the Directivity Pattern Control used in Perlisten's R and S Series. The cabinet can be mounted directly to a wall, hung from a ceiling with Perlisten's tilt-swivel bracket, or placed on stands or shelving, and the grille is optional. Finishes are matte black and satin white. At 675 mm tall, it blurs the line between a stand-mount and a short floorstander, so stands need to be sturdy.
Pairing
Average sensitivity and a low impedance mean the A3m needs an amplifier that is stable into 4 ohms, with real power in reserve for full output. In stereo it works full range in medium rooms, while in a 2.1 system one of Perlisten's D-Series subwoofers adds the lowest octave. In a cinema room, three A3m units can form a matched front stage.
Alternatives
Perlisten's A3t is the tower model of the same series for systems that call for a floorstanding cabinet.
