The R19BT is a compact 2.0 desktop speaker set that Edifier itself files under computer speakers. It is designed to sit either side of a laptop or monitor and to take its power straight from a computer's USB-A port at 5 V, so no mains adapter or wall socket is needed. The pair is offered in black.
Key specs that matter
In every cabinet there is one 2.75 inch full-range driver, which means there is no separate tweeter and no crossover to divide the signal. Amplification is rated at 2 W + 2 W RMS. Edifier gives a frequency range of 80 Hz to 19 kHz and a noise level of no more than 25 dB(A). Three kinds of input are available - USB, a 3.5 mm AUX socket and Bluetooth version 5.3. Every cabinet measures 85 mm wide, 175 mm high and 130 mm deep, and the set has a net weight of 1.35 kg.
Engineering and use context
A USB sound card is built into the speakers, so a PC or Mac sends digital audio and supplies power over one cable and Edifier describes the setup as plug-and-play. The AUX input covers phones, tablets and game consoles, and the supplied mini-jack lead handles that connection. The Bluetooth link is described by Edifier as giving steadier transmission and lower latency than older versions. Both cabinets are tilted backwards, aiming the drivers up towards a seated listener at close range, and Edifier builds the left and right boxes with equal internal volume so both channels behave alike. An oval bass reflex port opens on the front face of each box. Power and volume share one 25 mm multifunction knob, and a headphone jack on the front lets the user switch to private listening without reaching behind the desk. The cone dust caps are bullet-shaped and finished in a pearl-white coating, and the housings have rounded corners. The package contains the two speakers, the AUX cable and a user manual.
Pairing
With its modest power and limited bass extension, the R19BT is meant for near-field use on a desk rather than for filling a living room. A laptop or desktop computer is the natural partner through the USB connection, and a phone or tablet can join over Bluetooth. Consoles and other devices with a headphone output use the AUX socket. Because the system is self-powered, it needs no amplifier, and a separate DAC is also unnecessary when the USB input is used.
Alternatives
Edifier's R1280T is a larger bookshelf option in the brand's range, pairing a 4 inch bass unit with a 13 mm tweeter and 21 W per channel.
