The R1000T4 is an entry-level powered bookshelf pair in Edifier's R series, built for computers, televisions and small shelf systems that need a self-contained 2.0 solution without Bluetooth or digital inputs. The main speaker contains the amplifier and all controls, and the secondary speaker is driven from it through a supplied speaker cable. Cabinets are made of wood, and the power cord is detachable.

Key specs that matter

Every enclosure has a 4-inch (116 mm) mid-bass driver and a 13 mm silk dome tweeter, both rated at 6 ohm. A Class-D amplifier supplies 12 W + 12 W RMS with DRC active, for a 24 W total, and amplifier distortion is listed at 0.5% or lower. Frequency response is quoted as 75 Hz to 18 kHz within plus or minus 9 dB, a wider tolerance than many makers publish. The SNR rating is 85 dBA minimum. Each speaker measures 148 x 233 x 198 mm, net weight is about 4.2 kg and the packed weight about 5.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

DRC in the amplifier controls the output level so the small drivers are not pushed beyond their limits at high volume. Edifier states that the wooden enclosure reduces cabinet resonance and the resulting distortion. Two knobs on the rear panel of the main speaker set master volume and bass level, next to the power switch. The manual advises at least 1.5 m between the two speakers and a listening distance of 1 m or more, and suggests turning on the source first to avoid a pop at start-up. Polarity must be observed when joining the two cabinets. The supplied link cable can be replaced or extended, with oxygen-free copper wire suggested for longer runs. For the best result, the manual recommends setting the source device volume between 50% and 90% and using the bass knob to compensate for differences between recordings or sources.

Pairing

Two pairs of RCA inputs, labelled PC and AUX, allow two sources to stay connected at the same time. The PC input has a sensitivity of 700 mV and the AUX input 550 mV, so a computer sound card, TV audio output, CD player or phono stage with line output can be used directly. Phones and laptops without RCA outputs need a 3.5 mm to RCA cable. Because there is no wireless receiver or optical socket, a TV with only optical audio requires an external converter. As a powered pair, the R1000T4 does not need or accept an external power amplifier.
