The Tune 770NC is an over-ear wireless headphone from JBL with Adaptive Noise Cancelling, part of the Tune line that sits at the accessible end of the Harman brand's headphone catalogue. JBL published its data sheet in 2023. Compared with the earlier Tune 760NC, it moves to Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio support, adds Smart Ambient listening modes and app-based EQ, and raises the rated battery life, while folding flat for transport.

Key specs that matter

Each cup uses a 40 mm (1.57 in) dynamic driver. The quoted frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, impedance is 32 ohm, sensitivity is 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz, and maximum SPL is 94 dB. A 690 mAh, 3.7 V lithium-ion battery powers the headset. JBL rates music playback at up to 70 hours with Bluetooth on and ANC off, up to 44 hours with both on, and up to 30 hours with ANC running while Bluetooth is off. Talk time is up to 39 hours with ANC off and up to 30 hours with it on. Charging takes 2 hours, and a five-minute top-up gives about 3 hours of music. The Bluetooth 5.3 radio carries A2DP v1.4, AVRCP v1.6.2 and HFP v1.8 profiles. Weight is 232 g, and the supply requirement is 5 V at 1 A.

Engineering and use context

Adaptive Noise Cancelling is meant to block distractions, and two ambient modes let outside sound through - Ambient Aware to sharpen the sounds of the surroundings, and TalkThru for short conversations without taking the headphones off. These are switched in the free JBL Headphones app, which also offers preset EQ modes and an editable EQ curve, plus voice prompts in the user's language. A Smart Audio and Video setting in the app chooses between an Audio mode aimed at playback quality and a Video mode aimed at lower delay for games and films. JBL marked LE Audio as a feature to be delivered through a later OTA firmware release. A multi-point link lets the headset hold a phone and a tablet at the same time, and VoiceAware feeds the wearer's own voice back during calls. Soft PU leather cushions and a padded headband are used, and the box contains the headset, a USB-C charging cable, a detachable audio cable, printed start instructions and a warranty card. The maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C.

Pairing

Bluetooth smartphones, tablets and notebooks all work as sources, and the app is needed to reach the ambient modes and EQ. The detachable cable allows passive listening from a jack output on a laptop or player.

The JBL Tune 760NC is the earlier over-ear Tune model with active noise cancelling, rated at 50 hours with ANC off and weighing 220 g.
