The JBL Tour Pro 2 is a noise cancelling true wireless in-ear model whose charging case carries a 37 mm touch display. From that screen the owner can manage calls, playback, ANC modes, battery status and alarms and reach the functions of the JBL Headphones app, even when the buds are paired with a laptop, PC or TV instead of a phone. The case itself connects over Bluetooth.
Key specs that matter
Both buds contain 10 mm dynamic drivers. JBL lists 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 16 ohm impedance, 100 dB SPL sensitivity at 1 kHz and a maximum SPL of 95 dB. An earbud weighs 6.1 g, 12.2 g in total, while the case adds 73 g. Music runs for up to 10 hours per charge without ANC, 8 hours with standard ANC and 6 hours with True Adaptive ANC. Talk time is 6 hours, or 5.5 hours with ANC on. Each bud has a 70 mAh lithium-ion polymer cell, the case an 850 mAh cell that holds three recharges, and a charge from empty takes 2 hours over USB-C or Qi wireless pads. The rating against water is IPX5.
Engineering and use context
For its adaptive ANC the Tour Pro 2 uses four noise sensing mics that track outside noise in real time, and Smart Ambient keeps the wearer aware of surroundings. For calls, a six-mic algorithm is designed for loud or windy places, and with VoiceAware the wearer decides what amount of their own voice returns to the ears. Personal Sound Amplification can raise conversation volume by 15 to 20 dB with its own left and right balance. The proprietary JBL Spatial Sound is built in and places sources virtually around the listener regardless of the playing device. Microphone sensitivity is -38 dBV per pascal at 1 kHz, the power input is 5 V at 1 A, and 45 degrees C is the maximum operating temperature. The radio works in the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz band at under 15 dBm EIRP with GFSK, pi/4-DQPSK and 8-DPSK modulation. It is Bluetooth 5.3 with A2DP 1.3.2, AVRCP 1.6.2 and HFP 1.7.2, and LE Audio was announced as an update from spring 2023.
Pairing
Fast Pair from Google and Swift Pair from Microsoft shorten pairing with Android phones and Windows 10 PCs. Hands-free voice control works with Hey Google or Alexa. In the app the owner can change EQ, customise touch gestures, run a fit check, locate lost buds and pick an audio or video mode. The package holds the case, a USB-C cable and eartips in three sizes. JBL rates the smart case for up to 40 hours of spatial audio in total, and the voice prompts are available in multiple languages.
Alternatives
The JBL Tour Pro 3 is the later true wireless model in the same Tour series that also uses a smart case with a screen.
