The JBL VIBE BEAM is a JBL true wireless model with a stick-closed design, meaning a stem-shaped earbud whose closed form keeps outside noise out. JBL positions it for daily use and quotes up to 32 hours of total battery life when the charging case is counted. It works with the JBL Headphones app for tailoring the output to taste.

Key specs that matter

The earbuds are fitted with 8 mm dynamic drivers, and JBL lists a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, an impedance of 16 ohm, sensitivity of 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz and a maximum SPL of 95 dB. The earbuds run up to 8 hours per charge with Bluetooth on, and the case stores another 24 hours. Talk time is up to 4.5 hours. A 10 minute speed charge adds 2 hours of playback. One earbud weighs 4.4 g (8.8 g combined), while the case comes in at 39.5 g.

Engineering and use context

Each earbud measures 23.5 x 21.86 x 30.99 mm and the case 47.82 x 64.25 x 25.79 mm. Power comes from a 48 mAh 3.85 V lithium-ion polymer cell in each earbud and a 530 mAh 3.7 V cell in the case, with a full charge from empty in under 2 hours over USB Type-C at 5 V 1 A. Bluetooth 5.2 carries the A2DP 1.3, AVRCP 1.6 and HFP 1.7 profiles, with transmitter power under 15 dBm in the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz band using GFSK, pi/4 DQPSK and 8DPSK modulation. Active noise cancelling is not fitted, and JBL says the closed shape itself blocks external sounds. Instead Smart Ambient offers two modes - TalkThru for short conversations without removing the earbuds, and Ambient Aware, which keeps music playing while letting in the surroundings. For hands-free stereo calls, VoiceAware controls the level at which the wearer hears their own voice, and microphone sensitivity is -38 dBV/Pa at 1 kHz. The earbuds are IP54 certified against water and dust, the case IPX2. Maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C. In the package JBL includes the charging case, a Type-C lead and three sets of tips.

Pairing

The VIBE BEAM connects over Bluetooth with smartphones, tablets and PCs, and the JBL Headphones app runs on the connected phone. The app lets the owner shape the output to personal preference. Documentation in the package covers quick start, safety and warranty.
