The S12 Pro is the 6th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the S12, the planar magnetic earphone from Letshuoer, a Chinese company founded in 2016 and led by former Panasonic engineer Danny To. It keeps the ergonomic shell of the original but is finished only in Space Blue, adds a detachable lead with swappable plugs and receives small tuning changes in the upper midrange and lower treble. Launch pricing was about USD 160, and the maker lists it at USD 169 with a 12-month warranty.

Key specs that matter

Every earpiece holds a custom 14.8 mm planar magnetic driver. Impedance is 16 ohm, sensitivity is 102 dB/mW and distortion is given as 0.5% ±0.1%. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Weight is 10 g per earpiece, which keeps the load on the ear low during long sessions, and the shells connect through standard 0.78 mm two-pin sockets. Passive isolation is quoted at up to 27 dB.

Engineering and use context

A planar magnetic diaphragm is a thin film carrying a conductive trace and driven across its full area, and at this size it is much larger than the drivers normally fitted in an earphone of this size. Behind it Letshuoer uses an independent rear acoustic chamber, meant to keep the two channels closely matched, and separate front and rear chambers inside the housing. Multiple vent holes on both sides of each shell release the negative pressure that can build up in a sealed ear canal. The chassis is aluminium alloy, milled on five-axis CNC machines, then anodised and brushed in deep blue; blue metal parts continue the colour scheme, and a metal mesh protects the nozzle. The semi-custom shape sits in the concha for a snug fit. Buyers of the earlier S12 received a lead with a fixed termination, whereas the Pro moves to a modular design.

Pairing

The new 1.25 m cable is made of four cores with 98 strands each, 392 in total, of high-purity silver-plated monocrystalline copper in a braid. It accepts three screw-on plugs - 3.5 mm single-ended for phones and laptops, and 2.5 mm or 4.4 mm balanced for portable players and DAC amplifiers - so one lead covers most sources. The low impedance lets a smartphone or an audio interface drive it directly. In the box are three pairs each of standard, clear and memory foam tips, a faux leather zipper case, a cleaning tool, a manual and a quality certificate.
