The JBL LIVE BUDS 3 is a bud-type true wireless in-ear with noise cancelling and no stem, introduced in 2024. Like the rest of the Live 3 family it ships with a Smart Charging Case carrying a 37 mm touchscreen.

Key specs that matter

A 10 mm dynamic driver in each bud supports Hi-Res Audio Wireless. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 40 kHz, impedance 16 ohm, sensitivity 103 dB SPL at 1 kHz and maximum SPL 97 dB. Music playtime is up to 10 hours with ANC off, 8 hours with ANC on and 7 hours with True Adaptive ANC, and the case holds a further 30 hours for a 40-hour total. Ten minutes on USB-C returns 4 hours, a complete recharge needs 2 hours, and wireless charging is supported. Each bud weighs 4.6 g and measures 21.8 x 15.9 x 21.2 mm, while the case weighs 73 g and measures 61 x 51 x 30.8 mm. The earbuds carry an IP55 rating.

Engineering and use context

Bluetooth 5.3 runs in the earbuds with A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6.2 and HFP 1.8, and the case uses Bluetooth 5.1. The buds hold 60 mAh cells at 3.85 V and the case a 620 mAh cell at 3.8 V. From the case display the owner adjusts volume and EQ, controls playback, answers calls, shows messages and accepts a personal screensaver, and it works with laptops, TVs, phones and tablets without the app. The adaptive ANC draws on four mics that sense ambient noise, and the app's auto compensation matches the ANC level to wearing and ear canal conditions. For calls, six beamforming microphones cut wind and noise, with voice EQ and a voice level optimizer, and talk time is up to 5.5 hours without ANC or 4.5 hours with it. Transmitter power is below 10 dBm EIRP for the buds and below 7 dBm for the case, and the maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C. Multi-point connection, Google Finder, Google Audio Switch and JBL Spatial Sound virtual surround complete the feature list.

Pairing

The package includes the earbuds, 3 sizes of ear tips, a USB-C cable, the case and paper guides. The JBL Headphones app handles fit checks, ambient settings, gestures, assistant selection and a Relax playlist, and Personi-Fi 3.0 shapes a personal profile through interactive customisation tools based on the listener's preferences. The case has a lanyard loop and draws on a 5 V 1 A supply.
