The M23 is a stereo power amplifier from NAD's Masters Series, launched in January 2022 at USD 3,499, GBP 2,999 or EUR 3,499. It uses Purifi Eigentakt amplification, built by NAD under licence, combined with NAD's HybridDigital design, and it works either as a stereo amplifier or bridged into mono. An M23 V2 followed in August 2025 at USD 3,999.
Key specs that matter
Rated continuous power exceeds 200 W per channel into 8 ohms and 380 W per channel into 4 ohms. IHF dynamic power is 260 W into 8 ohms in stereo and 1,017 W bridged. THD is below 0.00069% through the XLR inputs and 0.0013% through RCA from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Signal to noise ratio exceeds 101.7 dB at 1 W and 127 dB at 200 W, damping factor exceeds 800, and frequency response is within ±0.06 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. XLR and RCA inputs are both 56 kohms with 200 pF. The chassis measures 435 x 133 x 381 mm and weighs 9.7 kg.
Engineering and use context
Purifi's Eigentakt module is a Class D design that keeps distortion very low across the audio band, and NAD builds it under licence into its own chassis and power supply. A three-position gain switch sets 19, 23.9 or 29.2 dB in stereo and 25.1, 30 or 35.2 dB bridged, with input sensitivity for 200 W of 4.5 V, 2.5 V or 1.4 V. This allows the amplifier to be matched to preamplifiers with high or low output, which helps set a useful range on the volume control. XLR or RCA input is selected automatically, and an auto-sensing 12 V trigger input powers the M23 up together with the preamp. The case is made of alloy and sits on magnetic iso-point feet. Bridged, one M23 delivers more than 700 W into 8 ohms. The original M23 is now in NAD's archive, and the V2 moves to second-generation Eigentakt modules and adds a 12 V trigger output with a timed delay. Its 435 x 133 mm front panel matches the width and height of the M33 streaming amplifier, and IHF dynamic power into 4 ohms is quoted at more than 520 W.
Pairing
The M23 matches NAD's M66 and C 658 streaming preamplifiers, both of which have XLR and RCA outputs, and the gain switch adapts it to other preamplifiers. The high 4 ohm rating and a damping factor above 800 let it handle low-impedance floorstanders. For larger systems, a second M23 turns the pair into two bridged monoblocks.
Alternatives
The NAD C 298 is a less expensive stereo power amplifier with Purifi Eigentakt modules, rated at 185 W into 8 ohms and 340 W into 4 ohms, at USD 1,999.
