The NAD CI 8-120 DSP is an eight-channel network power amplifier for custom installation, housed in a slim 1U rack-mount chassis and managed over a network through a custom web interface. NAD lists it as archived, and a CI 8-120 DSP v2 has since followed with the same eight channels, custom Hypex UcD output stages and 1U chassis, adding peak and RMS limiters and crossovers for integrated subwoofers.
Key specs that matter
Into 8 ohm the amplifier delivers more than 120 W per channel with all eight channels driven, or more than 130 W with two driven. Into 4 ohm the figures are above 135 W and 230 W. Channel pairs can be bridged for more than 200 W into 8 ohm with all channels driven, or more than 320 W with two driven. IHF dynamic power for single channels into 8 ohm is 125 to 145 W, and 440 to 480 W in bridged mode. THD stays below 0.05 percent from 1 W to 100 W into 8 and 4 ohm across 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The S/N ratio exceeds 88 dB A-weighted, frequency response is plus or minus 0.5 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and the damping factor exceeds 110 referenced to 8 ohm from 20 Hz to 6.5 kHz. Input sensitivity is 1,150 mV for 120 W into 8 ohm at full volume, and maximum input level is 2,900 mV. The chassis measures 483 x 45 x 435 mm, and NAD gives a shipping weight of 10 kg.
Engineering and use context
NAD fits a customised version of the Hypex UcD output stage within its HybridDigital amplification, giving load invariant power with high current capability. The built-in DSP offers a five-band parametric EQ plus high-pass and low-pass filters for each zone. The web interface includes a virtual I/O panel and diagnostics, an Ethernet port allows IP control, and control drivers exist for Crestron, Control4, Elan, RTI and URC. Four stereo RCA inputs are joined by dual global inputs and outputs. Cooling is by a thermostatic fan with front vents, and a universal AC supply offers several power-up options and an eco mode. The amplifier is IP-addressable, so each unit in a rack can be reached individually on the network. The trigger input accepts 3 to 30 V DC, and standby consumption is 0.5 W.
Pairing
The eight channels can serve several stereo zones of in-wall or in-ceiling speakers from one rack position, with sources such as streamers wired to the RCA inputs.
Alternatives
The NAD CI 16-60 is a multi-channel custom installation amplifier from the same range with a higher channel count.
