The Statement Mono Amplifier is a power amplifier of Constellation Audio, the American electronics maker, and belongs to its Statement series. Constellation built it around a new approach to amplifier power supplies, replacing the traditional transformer-based linear design with a switched-mode supply of its own. Each unit drives one channel, and two can be bridged for still more output. Front and top carry recognisable details - an illuminated power meter calibrated specifically for this model and titanium grilles on the top panel for heat management.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 1,700 W into 8 ohm, 3,200 W into 4 ohm and 5,600 W into 2 ohm. With two units bridged the figures reach 6,000 W into 8 ohm and 11,000 W into 4 ohm. Frequency response runs from 0.5 Hz to 100 kHz within +0 and -0.1 dB. THD plus noise stays below 0.05 percent at 1 kHz and 90 percent of rated power, measured over 10 Hz to 20 kHz, with an S/N figure above 114 dB. Output impedance is 0.1 ohm, which gives a damping factor above 200 into 8 ohm, and the balanced input presents 360 kohm. Gain is switchable between two settings - 27.7 dB for 4.5 V sources and 21.7 dB for 9 V sources. Connections are limited to one balanced XLR input and metal binding posts. Each chassis measures 470 mm wide, 825 mm deep and 317 mm high and weighs 114 kg.
Engineering and use context
The Constellation Switched-Mode Power Supply works with power factor correction to hold the main rails at a stable 380 V on any AC voltage standard, keeping voltage and current in phase whatever load the speaker presents. Constellation states that this lowers power-supply noise by more than 20 dB compared with conventional designs. Output current comes from 96 transistors, which lets the amplifier keep delivering power as impedance falls. The input stage is fully balanced and mirror-imaged, and its amplification modules are paralleled, which the maker says cuts noise by 5 dB. That stage has a dedicated three-stage regulated supply of its own, separate from the main rails, to keep noise out of the most sensitive part of the circuit.
Pairing
Choosing between the two gain positions accommodates preamplifiers with high or moderate maximum output. The low-impedance rating and bridging capability make the pair suitable for large, low-impedance loudspeakers, and the single XLR input means the preamplifier needs a balanced output.
Alternatives
The Constellation Revelation 2 Mono Amplifier is a smaller monoblock from the brand with lower rated output.
