The Inspiration 2 Mono Amplifier is the monoblock in the Inspiration 2 series from Constellation Audio, sharing its circuit with the Inspiration 2 Stereo. Constellation describes both as distilled versions of its larger amplifiers, keeping the same circuits and design philosophy but using fewer modules and a less overbuilt power supply in a more compact chassis, now combined with a switch-mode power supply.
Key specs that matter
Maximum output at 0.1 percent THD+N across 20 Hz to 20 kHz is 500 W into 8 ohm and 1,000 W into 4 ohm. Inputs comprise three XLR sockets plus one RCA, and speakers connect to metal binding posts. Input sensitivity for full power into 8 ohm is 17.8 V on the direct input and 3.5 V on the non-direct input, while into 4 ohm it is 16 V direct and 3.5 V non-direct. Gain is 12 dB through the direct input and 25.2 dB through the non-direct input. Frequency response is 10 Hz to 80 kHz within plus or minus 0.05 dB. Output impedance is 0.1 ohm and damping factor 80. Signal-to-noise, measured from DC to 90 kHz, is 100 dB A-weighted referred to 1 V, 115 dB unweighted referred to full power and 125 dB A-weighted at full power.
Engineering and use context
Constellation calls its topology Balanced Bridged. Each amplifier module is a single-ended design, and more power comes from adding modules instead of raising circuit complexity. The amplifier runs balanced, with a dedicated circuit for each polarity of the waveform, and whereas other balanced amplifiers assign N-type parts to one polarity and P-type parts to the other, Constellation relies solely on N-type transistors, meaning each half travels through the same kind of circuit. At the input sits the Line Stage Gain Module from the company's top amplifiers, where hand-selected pairs of low-noise transistors work alongside a servo circuit that corrects signal balance inconsistencies. The Constellation Direct interface links to Constellation amplifiers and takes a gain stage out of the signal chain. Mains consumption is under 0.25 W in standby and 135 W at idle, rising to 1,300 W at full power into 8 ohm and 1,500 W into 4 ohm, with a power factor of 0.98 at partial power and 1.00 at full power. The chassis is 432 mm wide, 216 mm high and 483 mm deep and weighs 19.5 kg.
Pairing
Within the same series Constellation also offers the Inspiration 2 Preamp and the Inspiration 2 Integrated, and one of the three XLR inputs is reserved for the Constellation Link.

Constellation also builds the Revelation 2 Mono, a monoblock from its Revelation 2 series.
