The Revelation 2 Mono Amplifier is a one-channel amplifier built by the American firm Constellation Audio. It belongs to the Revelation 2 series, which the maker positions as the link between its entry Inspiration hardware and its costlier lines, and which also includes a preamplifier, a phono stage and a stereo amplifier rated at 300 W per channel. Constellation calls it a condensed version of its larger monoblocks in a smaller chassis, and the UK price is GBP 35,000 per unit.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 600 W into 8 ohm and 1,100 W into 4 ohm at 0.1 percent THD plus noise across 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Two gain settings exist - 12 dB through the direct input and 25.2 dB through the standard one - so full power into 8 ohm needs 17.9 V or 3.7 V respectively, and 17.3 V or 3.5 V into 4 ohm. Frequency response holds within 0.05 dB from 10 Hz to 80 kHz. Output impedance is 0.05 ohm, giving a damping factor of 150. Signal-to-noise ratio is 100 dB referenced to 1 V, A-weighted, and 115 dB unweighted or 125 dB A-weighted referenced to full power. Connections comprise two XLR inputs, one of them a Constellation Link, one RCA input and metal binding posts. The chassis measures 432 x 216 x 585 mm wide, high and deep, for a weight of 25 kg.
Engineering and use context
The amplifier uses Constellation's Balanced Bridged topology, in which each polarity of the signal gets its own amplifier circuit, and output is scaled by adding identical modules rather than by making the circuit more complex. Only N-type transistors are used in both halves, keeping the two paths symmetrical. The input section is a Line Stage Gain Module, where low-noise transistors are matched by hand and a servo circuit keeps the positive and negative paths in balance. Power comes from the Constellation Switched-Mode Power Supply, which the maker says has noise more than 20 dB below a typical linear supply. Power factor correction keeps voltage and current in phase regardless of the speaker load, reaching 0.98 at partial power and 1.00 at full power, and Constellation credits it with 20 percent more output than earlier versions. Consumption is under 0.5 W in standby, 135 W at idle, and 1,300 W or 1,970 W at full power into 8 or 4 ohm.
Pairing
The Constellation Direct interface lets a compatible Constellation preamplifier, such as the Revelation 2 Preamplifier, connect through a direct path that bypasses an amplification stage. With other brands the standard XLR or RCA input and its higher gain suit conventional line-level sources.
Alternatives
The Constellation Inspiration 2 Mono Amplifier is the brand's more compact monoblock with lower rated output.
